Food. Excellent ! Fresh, superb portions, everything they make including poutine sauce and poutine are fresh house made!!!! Pricing is very reasonable and provide good value. Service is excellent, especially Gloria who has to be the kindest and most attentive person I have ever met in foodservice. She is constantly moving and taking care of business the entire time I was there (45 minutes). Atmosphere is actually kitch. This is about being a simple old school diner that focuses on great food at reasonable pricing and a clean safe space to enjoy it with lovely attentive service. This is what North America needs - more Harv’s diner !!! Is there a Harv??
The food experiment was lovely starting off with exceptionally warm and caring waitress, followed by a fresh cup of decaf coffee - not always available at the best of restaurants. The next step was selecting something to eat from an excellent focused lunch and breakfast menu. I loved all the various meats they offer and especially appreciate the way the (properly) cook the sausage by deep frying it to render excess fat and juicy interior while being crispy outside - but not too crisp. Toast - 3 slices!!! That’s the way it should be. Eggs any way was perfectly cooked. Interestingly this is one of the few establishments that use cooking spray on the griddle. This is something rarely seen and provides a less greasy spoon diner experience - which I personally appreciate. I ordered a number 1, but wanted to try the pancakes so I changed to a number 2, which for $1.50 included a large single pancake with pancake syrup and butter. The pancake was perfectly cooked as it was light and fluffy inside without being dry, the exterior was slightly of a browned crisp texture, and the whole thing just melted in your mouth. I will likely have pancakes next time - yum. The potatoes are the only weak side to this place. They have the right idea of offering two types of breakfast potatoes, one being a fresh potatoe that is first par boiled (I am assuming) and then sliced into small pieces and then blended with fresh sliced onions and left on the flat top (grill) to cook off and create a crispy texture and let the onions meld into the potatoes. The problem is the potatoes were not well cooked enough and they had little to no discernible flavour - not even the onions which I could not find one. They need to add some seasoning such as salt, a touch of pepper, some onion powder, a little garlic powder, and a touch of sweet paprika and a dab of cayenne. Now, the fried potatoes had zero taste and even with added salt still was not enjoyable for me. I’d suggest to take the once fried potatoes and toss them in a metal mixing bowl with a mixture of seasoning while there is still a little oil coating the potatoes so they can adhere to the potatoes. Salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder and also add some fresh cut green onion or onion and chives. This would be killer. Outside of the potatoes this place is the bomb and I am coming back again that’s for sure. And if they change the potatoe recipe I’ll do eggs again and until then I’ll do pancakes - or, they have breakfast poutine!!!! I won’t ruin it for you but you have to ask about it as it’s...
Read moreI had high expectations when we were looking for a local place to have breakfast at while driving past Cornwall. Based on the high ratings, we picked Harv's. It's clearly a very popular spot with many locals, as the place was busy the entire time we were there. It has a real diner feel with cushioned stools at the counter and simple, somewhat outdated seating/tables and decor throughout. The service was pretty good .... a little slow to take our initial order but the servers were running around a lot and bussing the tables themselves. Coffee refills happened frequently, but the coffee is the epitome of diner coffee and not really good at all. The cooks are visible at the centre of the place and they were all working pretty hard and fast. I ordered Eggs Benedict and was asked if I wanted soft, medium or hard - I like my yolk to run, so ordered soft. When my meal arrived the eggs were hard in the middle; the English muffin wasn't toasted and there was 1 small pieces of thin bacon on each muffin. The sauce was tasty though and the hash browns were pretty good too. Eggs Benedict is my 'go-to' order at any breakfast place so this is why I've given it a very average rating as it was mediocre at best compared to many others places I've been to. Make sure to bring cash, as it is the only method of payment...
Read moreFirst time visiting and was really disappointed with the service. Understandable that a popular breakfast place would be busy however after waiting 10-15 minutes for a table we then waited an additional 10 minutes before being greeted then watched as people who were seated after us got their food, ate, paid and left before our food arrived. No acknowledgement from the server regarding the 30+ min wait time for food and our bill didn't have the price or total. We asked for a bill with prices however was told she calculated the total at the cash but we could see other people with bills where the price and totals were...
