🔥High Praise for High Lunch 🔥
As a resident of OEV, this restaurant has been on my to-do list for a while. I didn’t realize that High Lunch has been around since the 60’s and is a family owned business. Walking into this restaurant is like taking a trip back in time, very authentic diner ambiance, authenticity 💯 It also operated 24hrs “back in the day”. Greek diners usually have the highest standard for food so I had expectations. The expectations were met. 👌🏾 My son ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with Fries and I ordered the Cheeseburger with Greek Salad. My son really enjoyed the food and told me he would return, especially if he goes to school next door. I like how they served the burger open face style, veteran move. The Greek Salad was well seasoned and not overly dressed like some Greek salads.
This is a cash only business so be prepared to walk to the variety store if you don’t carry cash.
Here are some things we liked overall:
Food ✅ Decor ✅ Value ✅ Service ✅ ( I wouldn’t say the service was great and at times I felt like they just wanted me to order and get out). That being said it wasn’t bad. Average at best.
I would definitely return for a quick, fresh delicious High Lunch in the future and you...
Read moreHigh Lunch is the best!! Pat is the owner & Cook. She is a very nice lady who helps people in need. She has brought food outside to homeless & less fortunate if she seen them sitting on the ground or curb with all their bags in the area & looked like they were down & out. Years ago when her husband was still with us, he did the cooking & mostly ran the diner, he would close on Christmas day. One year Pat asked if she could open it while he took the day off. She cooked a turkey dinner & invited homeless ppl who were on the streets in the area or walking by in for a Christmas meal. I've been going here for a few years & have had most of the food on the menu & every meal was the greatest!! The prices are lower than most places. Before covid they were lower & was forced to up them because of covid. My Dad also loved coming here for the great food when he visited me before the Alzheimer's. I highly recommend High Lunch if you're looking for great food, big portions & lower prices. This is my...
Read moreI love the atmosphere at High Lunch, with its open kitchen, swivelling stools and Pat or one of her children, or grandchildren cookin' at the griddle! Prices are entirely reasonable and the menu is written on a giant chalkboard, just like a fancy, artisinal restaurant - except the 'High' has been there since the early 1960's. Cuisine is classic, hand-made, greasy spoon comfort food, served up with pride. Most seats are centred around the open kitchen and provide an excellent opportunity to catch up with your neighbours. Until recently, the High Lunch operated 24/7 and if you had noticed the lights on as you were taking that long walk home along Dundas St. at 2:00 a.m., from whatever bar or party you were at and needed something fortifying, Pat's milkshakes were the very antidote. These days, the 'High' is still open 7 days a week, for breakfast (all day) and lunch (until 5pm close). And the milkshakes are still an excellent antidote for...
