Went there for dinner last night March 4, 2019. There was 6 of us for dinner. I ordered their Hot Roast Beef Dinner. It was absolutely terrible. It looked as though they used shaved sandwich beef on top of the bread with very little gravy. They also put the beef on top of very hard bread. They used the heal of the loaf which was stale to say the least. I had my plate sent back to the kitchen and was told that the reason my bread was hard was because they toasted it too much. Thing is it wasn't toasted at all. They brought back my plate minus the hard heal of the bread with the waitress holding a small plate with a piece of bread on it. The beef was not tender at all and stringy hard to cut. The others in our group had their perch fish dinner and it as well was not very good. They must be using baby perch because they were very small. Need less to say everyone in our party was not happy with the meal. The others in our party couldn't believe how my roast beef dinner looked and was served. The restaurant didn't even apologise for my "TERRIBLE DINNER". THE MAN IN THE KITCHEN WAS TOO BUSY ON HIS CELL PHONE TO PAY ANY ATTENTION TO WHAT WAS GOING ON. I do not recommend this place at all. We will never return and our party was from the Simcoe -...

Knechtel's on the Public Beach has been our go-to spot for fish and chips for over 15 years, and it’s the only place we choose to eat out for this classic dish. As a family, we’ve made countless memories here, and we plan to continue coming for many years to come.
The menu offers a fantastic variety of options, but our personal favorites are the Perch Dinner and the Pickerel Tacos—they never disappoint. Beyond these, there are plenty of other choices that are equally delicious, making it a place where everyone in the family can find something they love.
Despite being a popular spot that’s often busy, the service is consistently fast and friendly. We’ve never had to wait long, and the staff always make the experience enjoyable. There’s always seating available, whether you prefer to dine outside and enjoy the fresh air or sit comfortably indoors.
We typically visit at least two to three times every summer, and each visit reminds us why Knechtel's has been our family favorite for so long. If you’re looking for fresh, flavorful fish and chips served in a welcoming, lively environment, Knechtel's on the Public Beach is the...
Read moreTo put this in context, Port Dover is one of 3 public beaches in Norfolk County and the least rated on Google reviews. (For the beach quality and ambience refer to reviews) Realizing we couldn't get into Long Point or Turkey Point that Labour Day weekend we decided to drive to Port Dover. We got there around 5, drove around town to find a parking spot. Food truck style for people looking for Lake Erie perch, looks like a favourite among locals. The line moves relatively fast. Price is what you'd expect in these small beach towns along Lake Erie. Imo it's a bit pricey, but these towns need to make the most out of summer time tourism. Decent portions, the perch dinner came with a side of coleslaw and fries. Fed 3 of us who are on a budget and did not need a lot of food. The alternative, $35 for a dozen battered perch pieces and not much else seems like a highway robbery but I guess regulars think that's a deal. The homemade tartar is watery - kinda gross, so is the milkshake at $4.45 for a small. If your standards are McDonalds and Wendy's milkshakes then you won't be disappointed. The better quality is London Ice Cream...
