Usually, the Mandarin Restaurant is the place to go for great food and is the place to get it at great prices.

Imagine then, the disappointment felt when, while in hospital, (London, Ontario), a patient sends their husband to the Mandarin (Wellington location in London) to pick up a couple of egg rolls and 3 orders of won ton soup.

Let's face it, hospital food can be dreadful, so while recovering, a flavourful and hot bowl of won ton soup would be a most welcome change to the hospital fare offered.

So, imagine the extreme disappointment to find the soup as unplatable. The won tons were very chewy and gummie in texture, and as an in-patient in hospital, recuperating post-surgery, there was no way to return the inedible soup (hubby had already gone back to the hotel).

Add to the disappointment that the egg rolls were not much better - the folded or pinched ends were nowhere near crispy, and tasted like they had been undercooked.

This is an absolute shock to someone who stops at this Mandarin location, on purpose, each time they are on the way to and from London when seeing the specialist because the food here is usually so very good and something to look forward to - such a radical change as take-out foid makes this author wonder what could have gone wrong.

A return trip, post-op needs to be made again in 6 weeks, but I cannot magine why one would stop by to grab a bite to eat when such low quality product was prepared and given a customer - especially when so unwell and when so needed - the take-out was just dreadful.

It is a genuine disappointment that one cannot turn to a seemingly trusted source for nutrition and nourishment when one is vulnerable and unwell.

Stopped here on the way back home from Toronto. In Michigan where i am from we don't have anything like this, so to say that I was completely overwhelmed would be an understatement. The service was absolutely impeccable! Plates were taken within moments of stepping away from the table, drinks refilled when glasses were empty, yet the wait staff was never intrusive during our family meal. SIX STARS FOR SERVICE!!! thank you! From the moment I opened the doors and saw the KOI fish and the serving stations with employees meticulously keeping everything full, fresh and every station clean i knew this dinner was going to be amazing. Even the men's room was immaculate! A manager (owner maybe) visited our table and asked if there was anything she could do to make our visit better. I didn't even know what to ask for because every one of my expectations had been met or exceeded already. Again, SIX STARS! The food was amazing, maybe not to the level of more expensive/lavish oriental restaraunts in the affluent areas of SE michigan (that are disproportionately more expensive!), but light years ahead of the carry out places near me. The sushi was especially well prepared and delicious! The one thing i didn't see was coconut shrimp, but this in no way takes away the overwhelming choices provided. i wish i had taken smaller portions of my choices, and had more variety. I look forward to the time when I am near London to eat here again!

I recently visited and had an amazing experience, thanks in large part to our outstanding server, Jerry.

The buffet itself had a fantastic variety—everything from classic General Tso’s chicken to fresh sushi, dumplings, and a great selection of stir-fried vegetables. The food was hot, well-stocked, and full of flavor, with plenty of options for everyone, including vegetarians and picky eaters.

But what really stood out was the service. Jerry was absolutely exceptional. From the moment we were seated, he was warm, attentive, and professional. He made sure our drinks were always full, cleared our plates quickly, and even offered to bring out fresh items that had just been restocked. He had a great sense of timing—always there when we needed him, but never hovering.

Jerry’s friendly attitude and genuine care for our experience elevated what could’ve been just a typical buffet night into something really special. You could tell he takes pride in his work, and it makes a huge difference.
