Both times I have eaten food from this restaurant, I have found the prices to be a tad on the high side, and the food itself to range from somewhat tasty to somewhat not tasty. If you call the phone number that is listed for this restaurant online and on their gift cards, you will never get through to a live person. You will get a strange electronic message that does not even name the restaurant as the location you have reached. And there is no online e-mail way of contacting the restaurant. It is thereby impossible to ask any questions ahead of time, and impossible to make a reservation, which is a shame especially because the restaurant has the nicest booths of any restaurant I've been to. When we mentioned this problem to the staff we just received a glare and a bewildered shake of the head. When I tried to order a meal online for pick-up, they told me it would be ready in approximately 40 minutes. When I arrived 40 minutes later, the restaurant wasn't busy, but they didn't even seem aware of my order and had to start making it then and there while I waited. Since I was subsequently given a gift card for this restaurant by a friend a year or so later, my husband and I were forced to return. It was a busy evening for the restaurant although there was no wait time for us to be seated. The waitress was curt and gloomy, and seemed resentful that we were adding to the work load by having come there. Throughout our time there, it clearly gave her no pleasure to be serving us, and she never asked us if our food was to our liking, if we wanted to order anything else, etc. She warned us gravely that we would have to wait a very long time for our meal that evening since they were so busy, but then strangely, that did not even turn out to be true at all. Our meal came promptly, although the main dishes came before the appetizers. On the other hand, we had to wait so long for the bill to arrive once we had finished our meal, that we finally gave up and walked up to the cash register at the back desk to pay. Throughout our meal, a phone was ringing very loudly throughout the room, from behind the back counter. No one answered it, so it would just ring and ring. My husband inquired of our waitress as to why the phone's ringer had to be set so loudly that it disturbed the diners, especially when the staff had no intention of answering it anyway. He received a glare, a shrug and a curt apology, and there was no subsequent change to the volume of the...
Read moreMy fiancé and I first encounter with Plaza was when they opened their first location in London on Richmond. If was their soft opening (July 2022). I heard good things about this place and how they started out in St. Thomas. As a birthday dinner I requested we go. There was 10 of us and we just enjoyed the menu. A month ago we went to check out their Masonville location and yup…same friendly polite service and the menu was delicious as their down counterpart. Now we just had to try their Omakase. As an early Valentine’s Day dinner with my fiancé I went and made reservations for the Omakse Osaka option. It did not disappoint. The chef explained every piece that he served to us. From locally picked fresh and finest ingredients to what was in it, how to eat it, to dip it in soy sauce or not. Every piece was delicious. If you like sashimi, sushi, maki etc. you’re going to notice the difference in taste and texture when eating here. Top notch cuts and pieces that literally melt in your mouth. To name a few the sashimi moriawase, aburi sake toro, shima aji, o-toro, chirashi sushi, black tiger shrimpwith rice puff crust, anago, and the chef choice premium hand roll were our favourites. The whole course was tasty but these caught our attention. You wouldn’t want to have sushi anywhere else but here. We decided not to take pics of our food cause we wanted to enjoy the full experience without distractions. Some experiences first time around don’t need to be recorded and just be in the moment and I’m glad we did just that. Highly recommended Plaza Sushi Omakase. Will definitely come back again. Hats off to the chef and staff.
Ps definitely add the wagyu piece to your omakase....
Read morePlaza Sushi Omakase - First Time Experience! We finally gave Plaza Sushi's Omakase a try, and WOW - it exceeded all expectations! The food was amazing, and the value was totally worth it. Our chef, Peter, treated us to two extra courses (including A5 Wagyu steak nigiri, which quickly became a favorite). Omakase Osaka Course Highlights: Zawan-mushi: A delicate steamed egg with sea eel, shiitake mushrooms, bonito sauce, and salmon roe. Sashimi-Moriawase: An incredible assortment featuring o-toro, chu-toro, kombu salmon, kanpachi, and ankimo. Black Tiger Shrimp: Fried in a crispy rice puff crust, paired with black garlic aioli. Uni Shokupan: Japanese milk bread deep-fried and topped with Hokkaido uni, caviar, and mayo. Torched Salmon Belly: Lightly seared with jalapeño, mayo, and ikura - perfect bite!
From start to finish, this was an incredible two-hour dining experience. The staff was attentive, even setting up special lighting so we could capture photos. They took care of every detail, from serving the courses seamlessly to making sure we were comfortable. The fish was so tender and flavorful - some of the best we've had, even compared to high-end spots in Toronto. Each bite was well-timed, so we never felt too rushed or overly full by the end. The pacing and presentation were on point. Total: ~$300 with tip, and it felt worth every penny. The intimate vibe, torched dishes prepared right in front of us, and extra special touches made this dinner feel unforgettable, especially as it celebrated our 6th...
