OZEN SUSHI

We went for an early dinner and sat in the back. It wasn’t that clean…dirty floor and table next to us (which remained that way for quite a while). We ordered miso soup, avocado salad, a mixed platter for 2 and a couple of a la carte sushi. There were no hot drinks available (tea) because the pot was broken, so we settled for water. The avocado salad was fresh and the dressing was tasty. Miso soup was just broth and a bit on the too salty side. Next came the a la carte sushi rolls…the presentation was minimal…just sushi and no wasabi or pickled ginger and they were unevenly rolled and cut. Not much of a feast for the eyes. The soy sauce on offer was the basic, way too salty standard. In the flavour department, the sushi were was no better in flavour than bento to go. We waited a long time for the sushi/sashimi platter…turned out that it never arrived. Staff apologized and offered to make the dish but we decided to go elsewhere. An odd thing was that a large, clear container of miso soup was passed from the kitchen to the wait staff on the floor ostensibly to pour out into bowls at a serving station rather than in the kitchen (it’s a small place, but I would think this practice could be a potential health and safety concern). Not a great experience…and this place was recommended by two people (who likely like bento to go…)!
