Went in after the lunch rush. The atmosphere is dark and old, nothing greatly different from when it was Knowles. I spoke to a waitress as soon as I walked in, there were plenty of them standing around. All very young. I sat myself and waited. And waited. And waited. They talked to each other, they talked to family and friends and I waited. I was about to get up to leave when one finally asked if I wanted a drink. The menu choices are pretty boring, your basic 70s truck stop menu items. So I ordered the farmers breakfast. They were out of white bread. My meal was served quickly, food was hot and portions adequate. The homefries were bland with no onions or seasoning, just fried potato. My waitress did not check on me, I finished my meal and tried to get up to leave however, the owner was blocking me in my booth while he talked with the mother of a waitress. I said excuse me repeatedly to get out of my booth and he kept talking till someone tapped him to move. I then went to the cash register. 4 waitresses were standing there talking. One came to the cash, picked up the wireless POS and went back to join the other waitresses at the end of the counter. I was beginning to wonder if I was invisible, so I sat down on one of the stools and waited some more. Nothing. I then called over to the group and asked if I could pay and the girl with the POS asked what my table number was. "I have no idea, the 2nd from the back wall" and I told her what I had. She stared at the POS and could'nt seem to figure it out so she walked back over to the others and my waitress who had been standing there the whole time came over and let me pay. I probably wont return. Not because of the service, these are all young girls that are probably experiencing their first jobs and will develop personalities in time and if the internet and cell phones should ever cease to exist, but the menu selection and food were just bland. There was no excitement to try anything on the menu, nothing catches the eye that makes you think "oh that sounds delicious, I want to try it" Also the problem with booths in restaurants are the people on the other side of them. I could feel the back of the woman behind me and every time she moved, which was a lot, I was knocked forward, like sitting in a movie theatre with someone kicking the back of your seat through the whole movie. Also there was that group of people (the owner) and a few staff members, standing beside me to chat with the woman that could not sit still, behind me. I found it rude, and the loud conversation made my meal even less enjoyable. I will stick to Sunny Side Up in the future. It's bright, the staff is experienced and personable, and the menu is...
Read moreThis was one on my favourite places to come for brunch, but after our last experience that is no longer the case. I rarely ever give a negative review for places, but I have to say we were absolutely disappointed with our service last weekend.
Upon arriving, we were not greeted. We were not even acknowledged. Fine, we get our table. We order our food. After about 20 minutes after ordering our food, the waitress comes to tell us that they no longer have steak, and if we can order something else. So we ordered something else. Probably 25 minutes after that, she comes out to tell us that they did not have any white toast left. By this point we were waiting almost 50 minutes for our food. No apologies for the wait or anything. After about an hour total, we get our food. My husband's order was wrong. He asked for blueberry pancakes and he did not get them. At that point there was no point in waiting anymore. We just ate what we got. FYI, the restaurant was not that busy at the time or ordering. There were about 4 empty tables with the rest that already had their food minus the table behind us. The table behind us had also been waiting for almost an hour. Then came the waitress and had her hot lunch from the kitchen and ate it at the bar while the table behind was still waiting. That seemed inappropriate.
Our apple slices tasted like onions, so it was obvious that the same knife was used to cut onions and fruit.
Overall, our brunch experience was not a pleasant one, and we most likely will not...
Read moreWe arrived at 10:55 on Sunday June 29, party of 3, and asked our server if we were able to order lunch she agreed since they start serving lunch at 11:00. It was not busy as I believe the breakfast rush was over. Our drinks were brought to our table in a timely manner but that is when the wheels fell off. We sat till 12:15 before our food arrived. The food was delicious and very fresh but to have to wait 70 minutes for our lunches to arrive was totally unacceptable. Not once were we given any communication as to why our food was taking so long. When I went up to pay I asked why it took so long and the server didn’t have an answer for me, and zero apologies. I had very high hopes upon my arrival but was left with a very sour taste....
