Decided to check out State & Main @stateandmain for the first time with a $50 gift card, and honestly, it was such a good experience. We ordered a bunch of dishes to try, and everything came out fresh and flavourful. We started with the BANG BANG SHRIMP - tempura battered with sriracha aioli & unagi sauce - and it was hands down my favourite. Super soft, not greasy, and packed with flavour. We also tried the CHICKEN WINGS with honey garlic and spicy sauce (we asked for no teriyaki), since it was Half-Price Wings Wednesday, which was a nice bonus. The wings were a little overcooked, but still tasty and worth it for the price.
For mains, we got the Pistachio Crusted Salmon and Honey Glazed Chicken (both pictured). The salmon was cooked perfectly-not dry at all-with a nice crust and came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The chicken was incredibly tender, juicy, and also served with buttery mash and veggies. The mashed potatoes were so soft and creamy-comfort food done right.
To drink, I had the Raspberry Dragon Fruit No-Jito (non-alcoholic) and the Spicy Honey Margarita. Both were refreshing, but the margarita had a fun kick to it with the togarashi salt rim and hot honey syrup. Great drink pairing with the meal. Service was also a highlight-our server was kind and attentive, and the manager even stopped by to ask how everything was, which I appreciated. The ambiance was cozy, with a good vibe for dinner or drinks. The bill came to around $133 before tip for everything we ordered, which felt totally reasonable given how...

Pricey for some, but the food is excellent. Today I got the French Dip with jalapeno cornbread and garden salad. The bread was excellent with the dip, soaking it up but not getting soggy and falling apart. There was enough "pull" on it without feeling tough that it rounded out the tender roast beef inside. The beef could have been flavoured with more pepper, but that was my personal taste.
The garden salad was a mesclun blend with a vinaigrette dressing and bleu cheese crumbles. Very good.
The jalapeno cornbread was sweet, but not cake sweet, that went well with the jalapeno pieces that were distributed inside.
This is one of my favourite places to eat. I love the sweet potato fries. They come with three dips that I cannot pick a favourite from: Chipotle aioli, dill mayo, and bacon ketchup. Delicious.
I also enjoy their butter chicken, as well as their strip steak, which comes with some broccoli rabe. Also delicious.
The speed of service was the only thing I could fault them on, on this visit. I would have to assume it was because they were busy. It was a full house when we arrived for a Wednesday late lunch, and were seated out on the patio, (which, by the way was very pleasant), which might have been the reason for slower than normal service.
I would not let that stop me from returning again.
Recommended for date nights, business lunches...
Read moreSpecial Announcement Today, I got accepted into NATS (North American Trade Schools) for HVAC. To celebrate, my parents and I dined at State & Main! My friend Avery repeatedly tells me this is her go-to restaurant. Below is a full review of the location on Wonderland Rd and Farrah Rd.
Atmosphere Every picture on the walls add to the personality of this restaurant: one framed picture has a joke about a dentist. It has a casual feel, lots of TVs, and a bar. I would describe it as a diner that serves upscale comfort food.
Fried Chicken Tenders ($20) These were buttermilk marinated, hand breaded, and served with plum sauce and fries. The fries came with dill dip, but it went awesomely with the tenders! Rating: 8.5/10.
The Grilled Cheese Burger ($22) This burger had three types of cheese, including American, mozzarella, Swiss. Other toppings were bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onion. All of this was sandwiched between two pieces of butter grilled French bread. This sandwich was a let down. The bread was soggy, and there was not nearly enough cheese. Rating: 7.5/10. A stellar Caesar salad came as my side. I loved everything about it. There were large pieces of bacon and Parmesan cheese, the lettuce was crispy, and best of all, it...
