NOTE: This restaurant apparently has had a complete change of staff, based on my conversation with one of the servers and other recent reviews.
We used to go the previous version of this restaurant quite often. It was an adequate (not great, but this is London) mix of Japanese and Korean food. Turnaround was pretty fast. Around the time that a Plaza Sushi location moved into the same plaza, the interior of this restaurant underwent a significant upgrade. The middle of the restaurant especially got some new furniture and decorations that made it look like less of a COVID-19 spacer and more like a place where you'd want to sit and have a meal. Given that the food at the Plaza Sushi was pretty terrible, we made this our local go-to for sushi.
The last time we had a meal here was a few months ago, and it was slow and not great food. I figured it was just an off day. We came back from an attempt to have dinner tonight. It took an hour, and the majority of our order had not even been started by the kitchen. The sushi items only turned up at about the 45 minute mark after I got up and complained to the staff, and it was hastily thrown together. At one hour, I gave up and told the staff to cancel the rest of our order, that I would pay for what was on the table and that we were leaving. We ended up stopping at the McDonalds next door just to have something substantial for the night.
To those of you who are ordering Uber Eats from here, I suggest stopping by some time and watching the staff frantically mash together your sushi order behind the counter. My impression is that the kitchen staff had no idea how to put together the Korean hot dishes. Anyhow, this restaurant is now on our "never again" list. It sucks because it was a pretty nice spot before it...
Read moreTaké Sushi needs more recognition!! 🌟 We ate here on Monday, and also today (Wednesday), and all the items we ordered on both occasion did not disappoint. On Monday, I had the daily special which was the Unagi (eel) Poke Bowl and it was delicious! Had the perfect balance of freshness from cut veggies, corn, and edamame, creaminess from the avocado, crunchy texture from the fried tempura flour bits, and sweet-salty taste from the eel. I enjoyed this dish very much! We also had their Takoyaki and Shrimp Tempura, which both tasted great compared to other restaurants' version. The Beef Teriyaki with rice, I didn't like so much as I felt like the sauce was lacking depth to it (I couldn't taste any mirin or rice wine). The Beef Yakisoba Stir Fried Noodles tasted very similar to the beef teriyaki, so I am not sure if the sauce for both dishes are the same. We tried the torched rolls Volcano Roll and Rock N' Roll, both were bomb! I personally liked the Rock N' Roll better as I like cream cheese, but the Volcano Roll has a unique flavor to it brought by the torched scallops. Today, the daily special is Japanese Chashu Ramen and it was delicious! Their ramen tasted 10x better than the ramen I had at a ramen place here in London. They definitely know what they're doing at Také Sushi! Highly...
Read moreWe used to go to the Take Restaurant on Wellington Road. The food there was reasonable so when we found out about this new one on Fanshawe Park Road, we decided to try it. The atmosphere between the two cannot be any more different. This one is bright and fairly modern but feel kind of awkward with a large open space in the middle. Perhaps it is enforcing social distancing due to COVID. Certainly has a lot of room when business picks up. Perhaps they could set up some small private dining rooms. We ordered a Sushi and Sashimi Combo and a Pork Tonkatsu Don (somehow the menu says Tonkastu, pretty sure the spelling is wrong). The portion of both dishes are reasonable but the presentation of the pork dish is a bit interesting with a fake plastic grass separating the veggie and the pork on a elongated dish (sorry no picture). I have a feeling that a partitioned dish like a bento box may be more appropriate. The most important thing is that the food is very good. The sushi and sashimi are fresh. Actually the ginger may be cut too thick. The fried pork and rice with the sauce are also excellent. The service is also very good and the servers are attentive. One of the server may be a bit inexperienced but I won't hold it against him. We definitely will...
