We went for dinner here recently. We arrived at 8PM and were seated immediately. The vibe is cute - you can play games at the table, there are some larger interactive games, and classic music videos playing on the TVs. The place was lively, but not packed. Our table had a broken lamp, which we had the staff replace because it kept flickering on and off spontaneously.
When we sat down, our server took her time coming over. When she eventually arrived, we put in a drink order right away - a couple of soft drinks and one guest ordered sparkling water. We waited a long while for these drinks - the pop came in tiny glasses and was flat. We ordered apps as soon as she came back with the drinks and waited until 8:50 PM for our food (I know this because I looked at my phone - feel free to check the cameras).
At this point, the soft drinks were empty. The waitress didn’t notice or ask us if we wanted another drink and never offered water, which is standard at most restaurants. When I inquired about whether there were refills on the drinks, she explained that they serve canned pop and charge per can ($3 each). This is totally okay, however, if you are going to do this, you should bring a sealed can of pop to the table and serve it with a glass. I told the waitress I was surprised to hear that they are serving canned pop because our drinks were flat. She just looked at me and didn’t respond. I am also certain that you could not fit an entire can of pop in the thimble sized cups we were initially served. Regardless, we ordered two additional soft drinks and we asked for a clean empty glass to share some of the bottled sparkling water. This did not come quickly - after waiting several minutes I reminded the waitress and she told me that she was waiting on the bar. I’m not sure why just an empty glass could not have been brought sooner. This time when the drinks were served, the glasses were much larger, but the pop was still flat.
When our main dishes were served, staff brought the plates to the table without having cleared the appetizer plates. There was nowhere to put anything on the table and one server just stared at us until we all picked up the various plates and held them over our laps.
As far as the food is concerned - it was nothing special. I would describe it as bar food. The wings and chicken fingers tasted reheated from frozen. The fries were limp. The feta dip was the worst item we tried - very watery and sour smelling/tasting. We barely touched it. We did not raise this to anyone’s attention because while the waitress was nice, she wasn’t attentive, and we also didn’t want to spoil the mood for the evening.
I definitely think that we overpaid for what we got. The prices themselves are not outrageous, but when you look at value for money in terms of food quality, presentation, and taste - I don’t think it was worth it. We had many other meals in the area at a similar price point that far exceeded this in every way.
We were disappointed by our experience because we had high expectations and had been looking forward to trying this place for a while. I would return only for a late night drink because this is one of the few places in town that is...
Read moreMy teenage daughter and were going to try Vic Social for dinner, unfortunately they didn't want our business. We arrived at 7pm we were seated and not visited again until 7:25 with water. Because of the wait and very loud atmosphere we were discussing going to an alternative location, we explained this to our server that it was loud ( when she inquired why we may leave), as they were playing Bingo. The owner would walk around the entire restaurant every 2- 3 minutes bellowing out the numbers. She offered to move us, as she stated we were in the loudest area. Unfortunately there was no other area to avoid this "excitement". We politely thanked her, ordered 2 burgers and drinks and prepared to wait in the constant banter. However, George the owner as he introduced himself took it upon himself to approach our table. He iintroduced himself as "George the owner" , stated to us he heard we were unhappy...( which was not stated at all by us). He then proceeded to state that this happens every Wednesday and implied that I should have known this, as it is stated on their social media. Sorry but, not everyone wastes their hours on social media . .. he then stated that there are other places to eat in Picton and that we were welcome to leave. My daughter stated she did not want to eat here as the owner was very rude just then. My daughter is 15, and is quite humble. I double checked with her to see if I was rude at anytime, she stated that I was not and that I was overly kind and polite when explaining our initial indifference to the environment. I will also state that there were about 8 empty tables in the restaurant at the time, and the other patrons appeared to be enjoying the environment. Definitely not a place for everyone. I am a local patron that will not be returning, I will be supporting other restaurants in Picton during the off season. The environment looked fun if prepared for the atmosphere, however the owner is overly phony, and appears to be very entitled. Just...
Read moreWe had a wonderful experience last year and I sent a FB message to compliment this place. This year was a different experience. Everything started ok. We were on the patio at the picnic tables on Sept. 4. Vivian was nice until it was time for the bills and she was a different person. There was a table beside us who we recognized some of the people but we were not "with" and she added our bill and theirs together and included a 20% tip. We said we were not with them but just chatting, and asked to give us just "our" bill. In fact, their table had 2 couples and a kid, so this would entail us trying to split the bill in 3. We still offered to give the same 20% tip. She was so angry that we asked for just our bill. I mean, hey, we sat at a picnic table surrounded by wasps to eat expensive burgers (although good). She ended up obviously annoyed, asking this blonde woman who indicated she was the manager. She, very begrudgingly and angrily, said it's a lot of work, but she will split the bills. I got mine, the 20% tip was on there. I was paying cash and Vivian was so annoyed and said "I have no change, what do you want me to do" I already left a $20.00 tip for burgers on a picnic table, I'm not rich, yes I'd like my change please. She was so annoyed so I went inside to ask at the bar if anyone could give me change. She came in, grabbed the change and just threw it on the counter. We couldn't believe this. She was so nice when we first got there. I get if there is a large group, work out the bills and a mandatory tip but this was not the case. It left a very bad taste in our mouth and we certainly won't darken that doorway again. For wonderful service, delicious burgers and similar seating, we will go to Harry's charbroiled where your business is appreciated. Extremely...
