Windsor's Penalty Box Restaurant — Restaurant in Ontario

I would like to preface this by saying that I rarely leave reviews, unless I either had an amazing time, or multiple atrocious experiences. This case is the latter.

I was actually recommended to this restaurant by a teacher of mine, and said the service was great, and that I would love the food, so my opinion of it started really high, and has gradually decreased for the past two years that I have been coming to it.

Every time I visit, we always wait around 40 minutes to an hour for our food. Out of the dozens of times I have come, my order always gets messed up every other time. This recent experience was the tipping point for me. I went with my mother, ordered their house burger, and asked for half fries, half salad on the side. Our server asked if I wanted greek, and I said no, and followed it up by asking for specifically, their house salad. Fifty minutes later, I was served a greek salad with my burger. No big deal, I was used to it. Asked her if she had got it wrong, she said she thought I ordered greek, after I had clearly explained earlier that I wanted house. She asked if I wanted to change it, I didn’t want to wait another half an hour for a single salad, so I just didn’t eat it. Then, when the receipt came, she charged me for it. Sure, whatever, that’s fine. The real dissatisfaction came from her half hearted attitude throughout, even after the terrible service. She gave no apology, none of that to at least make us feel better.

When we left, despite the terrible time we had, my absolute angel of a mother STILL left her a tip, courtesy of her kindness. She didn’t even say thank you. The worst part is that I’ve experienced multiple similar situations to this here. Needless to say, I will not be returning with close family for awhile.

If you are thinking about dining in here in the foreseeable future, I recommend against it if you are; one, unable to wait for an hour for food (this can be fixed by bringing many friends to chat with while waiting), two, cannot handle bad service.

Now, I’d like to talk about why I rated the food a four. It’s usually amazing. I personally dislike the greek salad, if you couldn’t tell, but most of everything I’ve tried is delicious, although not worth waiting an hour for. I recommend the ribs, the fries, and the burgers. The delights are obviously delicious. If only they had great service as well. That is why you should order takeout, despite the smaller portions! They’ve messed up way less on my takeout orders, only twice. And you get the food on time, because they tell you when to pick it up!

I hope you got a good idea of what it’ll probably be like for you to dine in, if you ever visit. Despite all my complaints, you should probably still give them a chance and form your own opinion. This is just how my...

I have been hearing about this restaurant for a while. We always saved it for "another day" and finally, the stars aligned, and we went to try it.

At the reception, the hostess advised us that the kitchen was backed up and delayed. No problem, we ordered simple, fast-to-serve food and 2 soft drinks. I ordered a pita delight which is their specialty (so it should be easy to figure) and my husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich, which is a scoop-and-serve kind of dish (because it takes many hours to prepare). No appetizers.

I asked the waitress what is the Delight sauce all she could say is "Mayo based". Mayo is a bit of a blank canvas, so I asked to at least tell me what flavor I should expect (sweet? Savory? spicy? BBQ?). She just repeated "mayo-based" several times while getting visibly irritated. Mayo-based just means creamy and greasy, so I asked to swap it out for Tatziki.

From the time we ordered, we waited for one full hour. We watched tables that sat down after us get served their meals. We saw other tables that arrived before us sitting at empty tables with long faces. The entire time, nobody checked on us, nobody refreshed our drinks, provided an ETA or at least apologized for the delay. Just once, the waitress stopped by and quickly blurted out "Your food is coming".

We ran out of time, if we still wanted to eat anything that day. We stood up and left. The waitress saw us leaving and tried to convince us to stay promising that it was "coming right now!". She did not even apologize for the wait and for ignoring us for 1 hour. She said that we were warned about a delay and that we should have known.

I understand that a kitchen can get delayed, but more than 1 hour to craft a pulled pork sandwich and a chicken pita? That is a sign of a deeply dysfunctional kitchen.

I still don't know how good the food is and probably never will. I hope it's good enough to wait for over an hour. Don't go there if you expect to feel...

I was there right now to pick up an order that for the third time I was told by an older female on the phone that it was ready. When I returned inside the cashier who was a blonde, younger female that had her hair up in a ponytail, a white male with long brown hair were at the counter. She was the one that I had spoken to twice before. She told me that my order was not ready yet I told her that my order was supposed to be ready in 25 minutes. It’s been over an hour and you guys have made me come in here three times for nothing. And if it wasn’t going to be ready in another five minutes, I have to go back to the hospital to be with my son and to just forget about the order. So she asked me if I wanted to pay for my order while I waited for it to finish it was almost done I said yes Right before I went to pay that so-called gentleman snatched the bill and started yelling and screaming, saying what the hell is going on back there I’m gonna see what the hell is going on there and he turns around and yells and shouts at me saying your order is not ready and the entire restaurant went dead silent and other patrons there started laughing It was so humiliating. His behaviour was so unhinged, abnormal, depraved and so disgusting. I was so disgusted. I didn’t even want to eat the food anymore because I lost my appetite. I just pushed the debit machine away and I told them to shove it. I don’t even want to buy anything from here. And I felt so discriminated against and I felt so frustrated because even the worker thought it was funny and it’s not. After eight years of coming to this place, I will never come here again nor will I ever recommend anyone to come here again And I have already shared my experience with several business and offices that I know order from here regularly. There are so many businesses in Windsor that they can support and who have employees that respect their customers and do not shout at them...
