The receipt lists the server as “Jane,” but I believe her name was Jamila. I’ve been a regular at Crepe Castle for the last two years because the food is consistently good, but my experiences with this particular server have been consistently disappointing.
The first time she served me, I assumed she was having an off day since the other servers are usually great. However, after being seated in her section multiple times, I’ve realized it’s a recurring issue. I’ve now been served by her three times in a row, and this last experience was the final straw.
To start, it took her at least five minutes to acknowledge our party. When we requested water, she only brought 5 glasses for our party of 10, then disappeared for another 7-8 minutes. We had to flag down another server to get the remaining water. We also had to wave her down to take our order, and instead of coming closer to hear us better, she was yelling across the table. We had to ask her to come closer since it was a busy Sunday with other families around.
I always request a specific substitution, and I’ve noticed that she doesn’t write it down. Unsurprisingly, when the food arrived, it was incorrect—just like the other times she’s served me. Again, this time she didn’t write it down.
She never checked on us after we received our food, and while we were still eating, another server brought us the bill—without us asking for it. None of us had finished our meals yet, and we were surprised to see it arrive early. On top of that, she automatically charged a 20% gratuity, which was far from deserved. I fully support tipping fairly, but 20% was unwarranted in this case.
Please address this issue, as this isn’t the first, second, or even third time it has happened. While I enjoy the food and plan to return, I will definitely request a different server next time. It’s unfortunate that I now feel the need to warn friends and family about the service before they visit.
UPDATE: 20/08/2024 I appreciate your response and care to address my concerns. However, I find the need to call out specific time stamps quite peculiar and petty. Your omission of certain events that I found to truly taint my experience at Crepe Castle also seems purposeful and cowardly. Because of this, I will reiterate my main concerns; the server was rude, rolling her eyes as we asked for separate bills, she also expected us to yell across the table to place our orders and only came around when we asked, she only brought half the cups needed for water and we had to ask someone else to bring more cups. Coming from previous experience as a server, I can understand how hard it can get when the restaurant is busy, which it was. But, we got the impression that our server did not care and felt that she was hindered by us being there. As a business you should feel lucky to be busy and grateful to have customers sitting at your tables enjoying your food. This is not the feeling that we had after being...
Read moreVery disappointed in this place for not explicitly telling its customers that an 18% gratuity was already added to our bills because we were a party of 11. On top of that there was no bill given, the server just handed us the terminal to pay right away. How are we supposed to know that a tip was already added to our bills with no physical bill being presented and without verbally being told? Talk about scamming your customers. This will be the last time I ever go to this place. Will never recommend to anyone. Avoid this place unless you don’t mind being scammed, don’t mind limited parking (we saw people parking in another plaza and had to walk over) or if you don’t mind being squished right up against another table while you eat (my fiancée couldn’t even push his chair out to leave our table).
EDIT as of April 12, 2023: I emailed this restaurant on April 4 using the email provided on their Facebook page and I still have not received a reply back. Until I receive proof that there was no service charge added to any of our bills, my review will remain unchanged about my experience. Based on previous customer reviews, I am not the first to be scammed and withheld of information before paying my bill and that speaks volumes about the type of business this is.
EDIT as of May 24, 2023: Thank you to Seiar for providing the receipts to my families bills to sort out our issue. After reviewing the bills we noticed that coffee was added to all of our bills (when only a few of us had actually ordered it) so the extra fee for coffee was what we had mistaken for a service fee. This misunderstanding is due to the fact that a proper bill, giving the breakdown of what was ordered, was never given to us at the time of payment. I understand that a terminal receipt can be given but this is different from a restaurant bill and does not provide any information other than the date/time of the transaction along with the amount. We hope that this situation prompts better training and improvement of standard practices to ensure that there is transparency with...
Read moreI absolutely loved this place when it first opened. I've been here about 6 times the last time being August 11th 2022. It had been about 2-3 months since I had been out for breakfast so my mom and I went to have breakfast together (both of us have been really impressed in the past). Both of us left pretty unsatisfied. We don't remember being charged extra for everything on previous visits (custard to be added to one crepe as well as rye toast, both extra charges now) the service was fine but the food was overcooked like it was forgotten for a extra minute or so and instead of fixing the error we were served it because it was near closing. The peameal I paid extra for (I knew that would be extra) was literally crunchy clearly overcooked, I could barely cut through it (I ended up bringing it home to my dogs) the crepes were also overcooked on one side which they put on the inside like we wouldn't notice or something. You could hear it when you tap it with a fork, crepes should be soft. Also, they were lacking in "toppings" inside. I don't like bananas do I always get mine with no banana and it was tiny this time, maybe 1 strawberry total cut up inside,if that, with a drizzle of chocolate. The fruit on my plate was rotting. Why would you serve someone clearly rotting fruit? Such a turn off. So obviously I didn't eat the fruit and I didn't really want it on my plate But you don't even get a second plate for your toast or crepe so I had to eat my meal with rotting fruit staring at me on my plate. Super appetizing. 👌 I likely won't return and it's unfortunate because for $60 I at least expect not have rotting food on my plate. They could've cut it off and I never wouldn't know it started rotting but they...
