I’ve been to a lot of Indian food restaurants throughout the GTA. I have been vegetarian for over a decade and Indian food gives me more options than almost any other culture out there. I can tell you where the best this and that are and where the worst are (at least for vegetarian options). This is not to toot my own horn, this is just the build up.
Today, I accidentally discovered a local restaurant that blew every single other Indian food restaurant in the GTA (that I’ve been to, I’ve been to tons but not all) straight outta the water. The cook is an absolute spice artist.
The staff were incredibly friendly and chatted with us. They brought us out small plates of things we didn’t even ask for to try. Thank god they did, because the sweet rice (which can’t be found anywhere else) is likely the best rice I’ve ever had. The brown savoury rice was crazy good, too (not pictured). They also had some orange desert thing that blew me away (also not pictured).
Channa Masala is my favourite. This Channa was definitely the best (which took a lot for me to admit, since I have my favourites).
Everything was fresh. Everything was full of flavour. The price was really, really good for my friend and I both leaving the restaurant full (and with two samosas left over). I will be...
Read moreMy colleague had recommended this place for its channa puri, we drove from Ajax to check to it out despite there being many channa puri places in Ajax.
I went for the channa puri and halwa but ended up falling in love with their chicken kebabs and naans. We've tried alll the pakistani restaurants here in Durham and with Confidence I can say that this is easily top 3 in terms of naan and the kebabs oh and the Aloo tarkari. The channa and Halwa puri was great too but the kebabs blew my mind and its definitely what I'm going to be getting when I want someone pakistani food.
Idk what it was but the kebabs reminded me of my mom's food, truly tasted in house made and ofc they were made to order. The naans reminded me of when I was a kid in Pakistan and we'd get fresh naans made from the tandoor stores.
Service was very good too. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. Not the best seating area per se cuz it is small but it does give you that authentic desi restaurant feel.
Will definitely be eating here again! Also thank you uncle for the kheer, was absolutely delicious!
We ordered 3 kebabs, 1 chicken bbq leg, 2 naans, 2 channa/halwa puri thalie's, 1 pop, and 1 chai.
Less than $50 which is also a good bang...
Read moreOrdered uber eats from here just today and got the chicken wrap and small biryani. Specific instructions entered twice were absolutely no onions or tabouli and for extra garlic sauce on wrap. First impression. Wrap was completely soggy, filled with massive chunks of onion, and barely any garlic sauce. Ate most of it but threw out quite a lot of the wrap due to the fact of it's pudding like consistency. Biryani was supposed to be a 3 part tray separated with salad sauce and rice. Uber driver handed me the tray nice and right side up. Upon opening, salad and sauce were tossed in with eachother, and again, laced with massive amounts of onion. Picked out the onion and sauce tray and ate about half until the discovery of a long, thin piece of clear plastic weaved into the rice. Documented it to be brought to the attention of the resturaunt.
Over all, terrible experience. The couple dollars you save from buying from here really shows through the poor quality received. Glad I didn't eat the plastic and ended up throwing out more than half of the meal anyways.
Edit: have posted a picture of the rice with...
