Country Place Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Ottawa

Went for the lunch buffet. Horrid. Just horrid. This was hands down one of the worst dining experiences i have ever been through.

Lunch buffet is advertised as served from 12 to 2. Arrived at 1245, to a very depleted buffet table but was told "we are making new food." The only new food that was served were more deep fried chicken balls and egg rolls. No noodles, no rice, no meat or vegetable dishes.

What little food was available was astoundingly bad quality...the dozen or so patrons in the restaurant had to scrape the bottom of the serving trays, to get at the lukewarm remnants of a couple veg and meat dishes. It appears they put one serving of anything even marginally fresh, and, once gone, neglected to produce anymore, content to throw some low quality filler food in a deep fryer and serve that.

I was so astounded at the sheer awfulness of it that i took a couple of photos to show the dismal state of the "buffet". These were taken around 1pm, just halfway through lunch service.

Update: I would like to update my review to 5 stars. With the pandemic being a nuisance for the last couple of years, I've taken advantage of ordering takeout from the country place a bunch. I can't say anything bad at all. The owners are incredibly caring and loving people who have dedicated years upon years making excellent fresh Chinese food. I had one mishap where they forgot to include my rice in my order, but they honored it after MONTHS until I ordered the very next time. Can't go wrong with their open ended egg rolls, chicken balls, chicken fried rice, beef and broccoli, and more! I'm always satisfied with the quality of food that...

This is a guilty pleasure of mine. Just to be clear, it's not high end food, it's exactly what you'd expect for Americanized Chinese food. We order and pick-up a few times a year and we are always very pleased. It's fresh and tasty and i'm pretty sure very high calorie! :) It's a family business and they seem to all work together very hard to maintain the business. Everybody is always friendly and courteous. Though I have to be honest I would never dine-in as the dining room is not appealing to me. The family leaves a lot of personnel stuff on the table of the dining room and cash register area and it makes it look messy and...
