TL;DR, food is good, great selection, friendly staff, a tiny bit pricey, family friendly.
First and foremost, it's great to see local places that aren't the usual chains! We decided to try this as an alternative to having to go closer to the city center for a bite out.
Starting with the service, it's not bad but was a bit slower than it needed to be. Considering there was plenty of staff and it wasn't busy, we were 15 minutes waiting for our order. The staff were friendly and polite, and they did check on us twice during our meal. It wasn't bad service, just probably could have been a bit quicker. Also worth noting here that the restaurant was a bit chilly. It's not a great sign when most of the staff had hoodies on to keep warm!
Credit to the menu, they had a great selection. Lots of appealing dishes on there - certainly something for everyone. Good vegetarian options, particularly on the pizza menu. Great drinks menu too, especially considering all the beers were local breweries.
Once we ordered, the food really didn't take long to arrive. We both got pizzas and they were really very good. The crust was really great, beautifully cooked, plenty of sauce and cheese, and arrived piping hot! Barely a scrap left on our plates by the time we were done! Can't really fault the food at all!
Lastly, the bill. Considering what it was and the competition, it was probably a very little bit on the pricey side. Not over the top, but about $65 pre tip for two pizzas and two drinks is higher than some of the competition by maybe $10-15.
Overall, this place is certainly worth a go at the very least. The suburbs of Ottawa are congested with the same usual chains, so it's nice to see something different. It's just as suitable for a casual bite with friends or a partner as it is families (we saw two tables with young kids while we were there). The service, temperature and price are certainly not deal-breakers, and we'll certainly be back because the food and selection are very good, and the staff were really very friendly. This chain is new, and they're onto a...
Read moreWent there for lunch today and have been looking forward to it as I have heard good things and really appreciate a good pizza. I have to say there are a few things unacceptable for the price point. $23 for a 10 inch pizza that was not tasty nor was it well executed, and mediocre service. I would’ve paid no more than $12 for a pizza that small and poor if I had known. Unfortunately I think it is a bad attempt at combining American and Neapolitan pizza. The dough fits neither category and ended up tasting like a more flavourless version of any other pizza chain, or a botched version of Neapolitan, and the cheese and toppings looked and tasted very cheap like pizza pizza. Particularly the mozzarella and pepperoni were noticeably low quality. Unfortunately the sauce was what really made it unenjoyable, it was extremely acidic and generally tasted cheap and flavourless, maybe tinned tomatoes that hadn’t been cooked down properly. The worst part for me though, was the strong taste of gas from the ovens after hoping for a wood fired pizza. I am still tasting gas on my tongue 20 minutes after my meal. The pizza was also underdone a bit. On top of this, while the server seemed like she was probably a sweet girl, she made every effort to leave before I finished speaking, twice I had more things to ask for and she was already across the room. I gave up on giving her any feedback, seemed like she just wanted me out of there and had no interest in giving me a good experience. I ate the pizza (starving) and paid my bill, but I only left a 15% tip which even that was not earned whatsoever. Honestly if you are looking for a proper pizza, this is not the place. Sorry guys but I have to be honest, because the experience was not pleasant and I work too hard for my money just to waste it like this. I am more than happy to pay a premium for good food and leave 25%+ tips, but this was not even close to worth it. $40 for a nasty tiny thin pizza and a beer is not how you...
Read moreLove Crust & Crate for the food, fun/delicious drinks and overall ambience. I'm also a Pescatarian, and am happy that they have a decent amount of options I can enjoy. Lansdowne is our favourite spot, but harder to get to, so we were thrilled when one opened up in Findlay Creek. Food is good, service is quick, and the staff are really friendly.
Took off one star because I have been disappointed that they only seem to have pitchers available when 4+ people are splitting them, though I hope this was just a miscommunication/coincidence.
They didn't have them mid-Nov when 3 of us wanted to split on sangria (it's $12/glass or $25/pitcher, so pretty significant difference in price); server stated they hadn't come in yet because the location is new. Fair enough, they were even willing to charge us a reduced cost per glass to make up for it.
Came back December 27th; their pitchers were in, and the 4 of us at the table happily enjoyed 2 pitchers of their Fall Sangria (it's delicious; 100% recommend).
Came back December 30th with a friend, and we ordered a pitcher....somehow they "don't have them in yet" again, and when I told them I had definitely enjoyed pitchers there less than a week prior, the server suggested that perhaps I had visited another of their locations and gotten confused, because they've never had them.
Not sure if this has happened to anyone else, but we'd like to become regulars there, and at the moment are a...
