If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would! Desi Hangout is hands down the best spot for Indian street-style food in Ottawa. From the moment we walked in, the owner greeted us with such warmth and kindness that it honestly felt like we were back in India. His hospitality is beyond words supportive, welcoming, and genuinely caring about every single guest. We tried the Chhole Kulche, Spicy Fries, and Papdi Chaat and WOW! Each dish was bursting with authentic flavors, perfectly spiced, and made fresh with so much love. The Chhole Kulche reminded me of the true North Indian street experience, the Papdi Chaat was tangy and crunchy in all the right ways, and the spicy fries were the perfect desi twist on a classic snack. What sets Desi Hangout apart is not just the food but the experience. The owner takes time to interact with every customer, making sure you feel comfortable and happy with your meal. This level of personal touch is rare to find in restaurants nowadays. Honestly, I’ve never received this kind of hospitality in Canada before. The way they welcome you here, it really feels like a home away from home – like being in India again. If you’re in Ottawa and craving real Indian street food with unmatched hospitality, Desi Hangout is the place to go. Highly recommend to everyone – whether you’re Indian missing the taste of home or just someone looking to try something new and authentic, this place will win your heart. Can’t wait to go...
Read moreExtremely Disappointing Customer Service...
This was by far the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. The staff were highly unprofessional and seemed unprepared to manage basic customer interactions. They overreacted to minor concerns, making assumptions about potential issues before they even occurred. It’s clear they lack the understanding and professionalism needed to run a business effectively....
Your response completely misses the point. This is not about the Uber driver — it's about your unprofessional behavior and the way you handle situations. No one is trying to teach you professionalism; it’s simply about basic respect and proper customer service.
Explaining your side does not excuse the way you treated the situation. Just because a past driver made a mistake doesn’t mean you get to mistrust or mistreat everyone else. Each person should be treated individually, not judged based on someone else's actions.
Also, for your information, Uber drivers do not work for your restaurant. They work for Uber and follow Uber’s policies — not yours. You have no authority to enforce your own rules on them, and I’m sure Uber would not support the way this was handled. Expect a follow-up from them.
At the end of the day, it’s not even about professionalism anymore — it’s about how you choose to treat people. And in this case, your...
Read moreRecently, I had the pleasure of visiting Desi Hangout and loved the whole ambience as soon as I walked in.
Owners Gaurav (Guru) and his wife Priyanka are warm hearted and hard working people that genuinely care about their food and want others to enjoy the experience of Indian food. Bringing the home vibes from India and Indian street food, I was feeling nostalgic of how it would be back home. Their story of how they got into the business gives me goosebumps and so much respect for their dedication and commitment to achieving this milestone. Congratulations Gaurav and Priyanka.
I was craving a typical Punjabi breakfast at 2:30pm lol. Which was an Aloo Parantha. I mentioned it to Gaurav and he was so willing to do it and said I’ll do Aloo Piyaaz Paneer with a smirk. I can’t tell you how delicious that was. It hit the spot and I went straight to Delhi in a couple of bites. My mom ordered Chole Bhature and the Bhatura came out looking like a balloon. No lie! Chole are the real deal!!!
Priyanka is so sweet and loving. She was always checking in to see how we were doing. We had such a lovely chat and learned so much about her.
Ya’ll NEEED to try this spot. This was my first time here and it’s already now become my tradition to visit anytime I’m in town.
Lots of love and blessings to you both. So excited for your...
