I’ll start with the positive aspect of my experience: the service is fantastic. The servers were friendly and efficient. Absolutely no complaints there.
However, the laminated top of the table we were seated at had a corner peeling up. It created a bubble on the edge and I was worried it was going to knock over my drink.
We were brought some shrimp crackers and a peanut-y dipping sauce, which was pretty good.
Out food suspiciously only took about 5 minutes to arrive after we placed our orders. Granted, there were only about 5 or 6 tables of customers at this point, but that still seemed really, really fast.
We ordered a chicken Pad Thai and a Bamee Pad (#40 and #42) from the menu.
Ok I’m just gonna say this- the Pad Thai is not good. I’m no Pad Thai expert, but I’ve ordered it from a few different places at before, and the only thing this dish had in common with anything else I’d tried before is that it is topped with chopped peanuts. It was similar to something, though, and I placed the taste after a couple bites- Kraft barbecue sauce- Thats exactly what this dish tasted like to me- maybe with some added chili flakes or something, but the more I tried it, the more I noticed that this is what this dish tasted like! Even the chicken tastes alot like something could’ve roasted at home with some Kraft original bbq sauce on it. Eventually, the flavours became so strikingly similar to me, that I just started calling it barbecue pasta. I would not order this dish from this restaurant again.
My dining companion ordered Bamee Pad. They enjoyed it. I tried this dish and thought it was just okay. The only flavour I could really distinguish was fish sauce- otherwise it was an unremarkable dish. The vegetables stir fried in are that of the frozen “medley” cauliflower, carrot, and broccoli. They said they probably wouldn’t order it again.

Read moreGreen Papaya - quality issues - food doesn't taste like Thai Food We ordered 2 Chicken Pad Thai, 1 Shrimpt Pad Thai, 1 Chicken Curry. Pad Thai had just a little bit of chicken and noodles and sauce and nothing else. It was bland, and no other items like bean sprouts, eggs etc that is part of normal Pad Thai. There was no flavour, no peanuts or peanut sauce provided. This is like non Thai people making Pad Thai or complete cost cutting for a $17 plate. Pictures on the website show a different version of what wa sent home. The Curry was a joke, it was basically boiled chicken and a sprinkle of carrots and peppers. no coconut milk in the curry at all. There was no flavour and it was simply boiled food.
Bland food, simply cost cutting to not add other ingredients that are paf of Pad Thai. HORRIBLE. Don't waste your money.
Green Papaya franchise is need of help to get its value and quality of food back to par as this is not going to keep them in business. I also remember the other Green Papaya on Baseline to be the same and have not eaten there since our...
Read moreThe Green Papaya turned out to be a great Thai restaurant. I was expecting a regular Thai restaurant with the same old dishes. However, the food wasn't average: it was significantly better. The Pad Thai was different from the regular Pad Thai. None of us could stop eating it. The other dishes were flavourful, too. The seating area is a little on the small side, but we didn't mind as the food compensated for it. For those who like beer, you'll be pleased to know that they have a decent selection of Asian beers (Thai, Singapore, Japanese, and others) as well as European. The price of the food isn't excessive. For the 4 of us with 3 beers, a couple of starters, 5 entree dishes, and 2 deserts, it came to $185. The service was good too. I will return again for the food. The guy in the picture isn't me.....he's a guy who loves his food, but couldn't figure out how best to showcase the food, resulting in a funny smile & pose. It was a pleasant...
