Guava's Shawarma — Restaurant in Ottawa

I'll start this review by saying that I've never given a 5/5 review. I always think that no matter what no place is perfect.

Christmas eve night we went and grabbed 2 large chicken shawarma trios. The sandwiches we remarkably tasty, and the chicken wasn't dry considering how close to closing we came. The potatoes were cut into fairly large chunks with the skin still left on. I prefer more of a golden potato, but that's just a preference thing.

What stood out the most to me though we're the two gentlemen behind the counter. One older guy with grey hair, and the other with dark hair. Both these guys were soft spoken and very polite. The experience you have with the people behind the counter is just as valuable to me as the food being served. I left the place in a better mood than I did walking into all because of these 2...

Extremely dirty , we hoped it would be a “looks bad but food is amazing .” service was sub par, I don’t think the gentleman said one word to us as he was preparing our order . I ordered Donair platter that was priced at 17.49 once at the cash lady charged me 18.99 for chicken platter, I tried to tell her I had ordered Donair and it was priced differently on the menu and she argued with me saying it’s the same price and the tax will balance the difference, even though that does not make sense . Asked for extra salad instead of potatoes , no hesitation he did it , so maybe the one good thing I was happy about . I had accidentally run into this place while driving back from Ottawa to Toronto and I am so glad I did. This was probably one of the best shawarma I have had in the longest time.

The place could use some help with decor but the food makes up for any downfall.

The chicken and beef were perfectly cooked with the right spices and juices. The beef was literally melting in your mouth, and the garlic was just perfect. Usually the garlic sauce is not authentic enough at a lot of places but they got it just right.

The only regret I have is that this place is too far from Toronto but I will definitely be going back there again when I visit Ottawa!

I would definitely recommend trying their shawarma and potatoes on the side with garlic...
