Harmony Restaurant — Restaurant in Ottawa

[Edit Oct-2021] Ownership of Harmony has changed, and as such, so has the menu and chef. While they are able to prepare menu items from the previous menu, these favourites are no longer listed in the menu, nor are they prepared the same way. An additional challenge is comprehension of the menu, as English descriptions are far too vague to guess what the item is. Both myself and the table next to me were using Google translate to best-guess what to order. My suggestion to the new owners is to have a peer-reviewed menu for non-Chinese speakers if you're interested in onboarding new clientele.

Never would have noticed this place from the unassuming exterior, but do not be deceived!! This is a hidden gem off the strip of Somerset eateries.. absolutely love their Szechuan dishes, wish I was familiar with more menu items or had more friends so I could try more! My girlfriend is vegetarian but always has no shortage of options that we both love. Absolutely must try their cumin lamb, hot and dry eggplant, spicy deep fried tofu, cold noodles.. they also do Canadian Chinese food and those are really well...

A must-try and one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever tasted! Reopened since COVID with new management but same chefs as I recognize after tasting the food. Portion sizes are appropriate (slightly less than an year ago). As an Indian and a fan of Indo-Chinese food, I find Chinese food made-to-order (a la carte) in Ottawa disappointing in most places except one or two dishes. But this restaurant is at least up to the mark if not better. Cumin lamb is best but most dishes are close to perfect including traditional Chinese. Spicy crispy dry beef is not crispy but chewy and tasty. House special fried pork with green chilli is also good. All dishes are spiced perfectly - they ooze taste as we chew more. Staff are friendly and willing to help. Affordable prices. Decent for dine-ins but best for takeouts. Moderately fast service. At first glance, the restaurant did not even look like a restaurant at all from looking at it from outside. But upon entering, relief sets in when you see cutlery and dish arrangements within a glance!

My honest "take away"? Order their take out and enjoy the tasty food that's there to offer. I'd give it an extra star only if the customer service was a little friendlier up at the front. My family member told me she felt like the interaction was absolutely awkward when paying up at front with the lady.
