UPDATE: Nov 1, 2017 - Third time visiting this place and it does not fail to impress. Went in for some hot chocolate and the infamous cream cheese bun to warm up from the cold wind. The bun was fresh as it was from a batch that was just made and the hot chocolate was okay. Not amazing like the the one down at the lindt store in the Rideau Center but not bad by any means.
The lady working there was very sweet and made my order quickly. Didn't stay long enough to study this time but saw her walk over and give the wifi password to a girl on her laptop. Place is a little small but very cozy. 5/5 once again! Sept, 2017 - Went it early afternoon a few days ago after hearing about their cream cheese buns and was pleasantly surprised! The woman working the bakery was very nice and welcoming. I ended up getting a slice of their popular cream cheese bun, pear tart and lemon cream cheese square.
The bun was amazing - what tasted like a fluffy milk bread with layers of sweet cream cheese filling. It was a nice size and went perfectly with my cup of coffee.
The square was very good as well - it was more like a thick, rich buttery shortbread with a layer of baked cream cheese. It has a nice faint lemon taste which made the flavours seem more fresh, if that makes sense.
The tart was delicious and probably the least sweet of the 3 - maybe because the previous 2 were so sweet and I had this last. The pie shell was sort of like a buttery shortbread as well with an almost eggy filling and a slice of pear in the center.
All in all, I will definitely be back to try some of their other treats. This location has a bunch of tables in there as well (about 4 or 5 if i remember correctly) if you...
Read moreI’m assuming the owner is the middle-aged lady. She was extremely friendly, and that’s probably the best part of the experience. Unfortunately, the food doesn’t live up to the same standard.
I was visiting from Toronto and stopped by to pick up a cake for my girlfriend during the Christmas parade on Saturday. The only 6-inch cake that looked somewhat appealing was the black sesame soy. When I saw the owner pull it from behind a row of other cakes, I was already a bit hesitant.
The cake came to a total of $55, which is steep even by Toronto standards. Some of the best Asian bakeries in the city don’t charge this much for a 6-inch cake. The owner might want to reconsider both the pricing and the quality of the offerings. It’s hard to justify those prices when the ingredients don’t taste fresh and the cake design is very basic.
While the owner told us the black sesame cake was made fresh that day, I had called earlier in the morning and was informed only two cakes were freshly made: peach and strawberry—not sesame. When we finally got home and opened the box, it was clear the cake had been sitting out for a while. The cream on top had already started to yellow. And the taste? Incredibly bland and even my friend’s senior Asian parents, who typically enjoy more subtle flavours agreed with us.
My friend also bought a cake-in-a-cup for $15, and sadly, the only redeeming part was the fresh strawberries on top.
If you’re looking for quality and value, I’d recommend walking a bit further down the street to Delysses (beside Med Supper Club). Their cakes are rich, beautifully made, and better priced. I know they’re transported from Toronto. Or, if you have time, just go to T&T on Hunt Club for a better selection at a more...
Read moreNever been much into pastries. Spent my life thinking that what tim Hortons and the grocery stores sold were legitimate pastries.
i went to this place by pure coincidence, it's very low profile on the outside but when you walk in... the delicious smell hits you right away. To date i have tried three items off their menu, their croissant, their Danish and their chocolate croissant.
Out of the three my least favorite was the chocolate croissant, not to say that it wasn't delicious, but their croissant and Danish taste like perfection. When you watch a movie, and they bite into a perfect croissant, this is the croissant that you're saying. Perfectly crisp on the outside, very fluffy and light on the inside.
The Danish centre is succulent, and the pastry is very crispy.
i highly recommend this place and will keep going back, give it a try, you will not be...
