Tl;dr = Food is pretty good compared to the majority of Chinese restaurants in Ottawa. Some dishes are much better than others. Service is very good. Big portions.
Moo soo pork - it was under the “spicy” section of the menu but it wasn’t spicy at all. That’s not a bad thing in itself but the only flavour I tasted in this dish was soy sauce. The pancakes were very good though! Once you make the wrap (with the sweet sauce and everything) and eat it together then it tastes better.
Steamed Cantonese dumplings - there was no info on ingredients on the menu so we took a gamble and it turned out to be the best dish of the meal. I don’t know what was inside (cucumber? Zucchini? Sesame? I’ve had a lot of Chinese food in my life but this was new) but it was delicious!
Pork Shumai - they were big. Juicy but not much flavour.
Yuxiang eggplant lunch special - pretty big portion for a lunch special... I expected half this size lol. Not the best yuxiang eggplant I’ve had but it’s not bad, especially after you take it home and reheat it, it tastes better. They were pretty generous with meat - usually with this dish restaurants cheap out on the meat.
Hot & sour soup (came with the special) -...
Read moreReview from December 2023: new restaurant location near the Kowloon Market. The interior is completely different and clean. Small note: This is a Cantonese restaurant not Canadian Chinese food, although there are some dishes that are westernized that I would recommend too.
Spring rolls are good. sweet and sour pork was good. Tender. Black bean rice noodles with beef are probably the best in Kanata Stittsville. Better than Rideau restaurant that closed down, Café Orient. Maybe better than Ng’s on Merivale. I have finally found a good restaurant with Xi Jiu Nau Ho!
They have dimsum all day except a few items like har gow (steamed shrimp dumpling) and dan tat (egg tart) that is also served until 2pm.
The pricing was fine in the restaurant and the service was good and efficient. I will return to try more dishes.
Old review from 2019: Tender pepper beef -good.
Pepper salt porkchops - Tasted good... but not as good as the shrimp.
Steamed shrimp balls (3) - very good!
Cantonese noodles - very good! Lots of tender chicken, broccoli, bbq pork, etc...
Pepper salt shrimp - best in town. Didn't have shells and the taste of the batter...
Read moreI want to start with saying that I love Chinese food, especially when there is a touch of authenticity in it. I was shopping around Kanata Centrum the other day and was pleasantly surprised to find this little restaurant inside a residential area. I ordered my favourite General Taos Chicken along with Black Bean Beef, and a dish of Snow Peas. And wow, all the dishes came up very quickly and smelled delicious. You could tell that this was a family owned restaurant since the waitress did not speak perfect english, but provided superb service. But..back to the food. The general taos chicken is by far one of the best I have ever had, it was tender with the right level of spice and sauce. I've had many disappointing ones before where it is too sweet, it was fried too much and the batter is too hard, or it was just dry in the middle. But this one was amazing, it was authentic. The Black Bean Beef and Snow Peas also tasted delicious and served fresh...
