Well. The food was fine and their bathroom was clean. That would normally cause me to rate the experience with a 3 star rating.
However other factors also play a role.
First off... the meal itself was around 35 bucks for dinner which isn't bad. I opted for the all you can eat option. This means they give you a George Forman grill and all the raw meat you can cook and eat. Personally I could have cooked my own food at home but I was with a group of friends so when in Rome...
During the evening one of the servers accidentally spilled kimchee sauce all over two of my friends jackets. It was an accident and we are all human but I do not recall hearing an apology or see them offered a discount.
My chair had a screw poking up from underneath it. I informed my server but I am not sure they removed it. It is hard to see it but there is a hole in the chair cushion and if you apply pressure to it you can feel the screw tip.
It took a good 5 minutes for someone to bring me a can of pop. I had to ask twice. They were not that busy.
Then there was some confusion to the billing. Someone hadn't paid perhaps the card didn't go through. It really isn't the servers fault but it took quite a bit of time to sort out.
Lastly because we had to cook our own food we ended up walking out smelling like a deep fried. Good thing I wasn't on a date and hoping for loving after.
Even though I gave this 2 stars due to the circumstances and don't like the idea of cooking my own food at a restaurant I still recommend people try it at least once for the experience... just check you chair cushions for pointy...
Read moreCame back recently after a few years. Not easy getting a table when you're spontaneously in the mood considering they seem to be booked every weekend.
I was quite disappointed in their pork bibimbap the last couple times. Something about it was off compared to the many times I had it before a few years ago. The pork had a dark bulgogi marinade instead of the red pork marinade from before which I found strange and the carrots in the rice had a really strong raw flavour to them. Also got seated in the corner when they had better tables elsewhere.
My new favourite. Was looking for a decent Korean place west of downtown and I think I've finally found it, though some minor improvements could be made.
The gamjatang here is good. Amount of pork bones is decent, soup is hot.
Original bibimbap is good too. Also comes with a decent amount of beef. Only thing is that the side dishes only come with the bibimbap. But they are good. I also ordered a pork bibimbap on a second visit at I enjoyed that one as well.
That said, they only have one server for front of house and they are absolutely swamped dealing with tables, handling takeout orders and answering the phone. It was hard to get their attention if you...
Read moreMy friend and I have been trying to dine at this popular Ottawa eatery for 3 years! We don't live in Ottawa but we're here a couple of times a year and on this trip we called ahead on the drive up to make a reservation and got lucky! When we entered I understood why it's so difficult to get in: it's a small restaurant with only about 10 tables crammed into a small space! so much so that we had to ask a fellow patron to pull in his chair so we could squeeze by! We were seated at a table for 4 and were comfortable. After we got the menus and glasses of water, I noticed a sign taped to the wall beside us that stated there was an hour and a half limit to accommodate other patrons (our stay was an hour and forty minutes) We ordered an appetizer and our mains which took 15-20 minutes to come out. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout the service, regularly refilling our water and the tea that I had. Our main dishes were served in a stone bowl that kept everything hot from the first bite to the last! and everything tasted delicious and full of flavour! This was a wonderful meal and worth the wait! The next time I'm heading to Ottawa I'll make a reservation a few days in advance to avoid...
