Truly authentic Portuguese Café and bakery but actually much more than that, its menu also includes tasty Portuguese chicken, and an ample variety of sandwiches. They also have quite a few Portuguese grocery staples in both the non-perishable and refrigerated categories.
I commend the owners for putting a lot of effort into recreating a corner of Portugal right in the heart of Kanata.
During our first visit, we had a Pastel de Nata (a must), a Pear Tart and a Cheesecake.
All of them were really good but I wasn't expecting the Patel de Nata to be the best I have had anywhere, including a café in Lisbon where I tried it for the first time and it was just ok. Lusa has allowed me to comprehend why Pastel de Nata is a cornerstone of Portuguese gastronomy.
I really liked Lusa's decor with Azuleijos , the artistic wall and the family ambience. Chairs are comfortable unlike many Cafés, the artistic decor is inspiring and I appreciate they have a frame with an explanation of what Saudade is, on the way out of the restaurant! Nifty way to remind us to come back to visit in true Portuguese fashion!
Gladly I will resist Saudade and a short visit to Lusa will remind me of the taste and ambience of the things that will always be there for us to enjoy, like a Pastel de Nata from Lusa, hopefully shared with...
Read moreMy friend and I were sitting at the table beside the woman who was loudly and agressively chagrined by the owner ( I presume) for sitting at a table while the woman's husband ordered their food. It was an extremely uncomfortable, inappropriate, and embarassing public tongue lashing for the customer, who had just been to Lusa with her husband a few days earlier for a lunch. After this maligned couple finished their treats, the husband returned to the counter and politely told the owner that he would not be returning because of her very aggressive behaviour. I watched and listened to him. He was firm but polite, unlike the owner. At that point, the owner returned to the couple's table and went off bizarrely again, declaring that she hadn't shouted but was just expressing her frustration that people were not obeying the rules. At this point, most of the other restaurant clients were watching her with dismay as she yet again dressed down this couple. Last Sunday was the return to Lusa for my friend and I after experiencing similar behaviour from the owner directed toward our large group of friends earlier in the summer. Having witnessed first hand Sunday's inappropriate verbal attack by the presumed owner, we'll never...
Read moreFirst off the food here is amazing! However it breaks my heart I canât return. We visited here today and as soon as we walked in, I suggested to my wife to grab a table while I go get the order. While I was at the counter the older lady, I presume the owner went to my wife and aggressively gave her trouble for getting a table before the order. I actually spent $30 at the counter while this was happening. 2 other tables of people asked what was that about. There is a little sign, not much bigger than a business card on the table stating this which is really hard to see. When we went to leave I was not going to leave without telling this lady I didnât appreciate her being aggressive with my wife! She then came back to my wife and aggressively tried to justify what she did. I tried to suggest to her it wasnât helping her business giving a customer trouble in front of probably 20 people, she had no interest in hearing what I had to say. I really hope sheâs happy being there without us ever returning. NOBODY, gives my...
