I work across the street & noticed that they just opened. Went in to give them a try (I usually eat at the starbucks around the corner). I ordered my sandwich & waited a few minutes for it to be warmed up. I was lined up waiting to pay for it (there were only a few people in front of me who were waiting to pay so I had no indication that it would take long) and I noticed that the cashier was realllllly struggling to ring people through. I waited more than 15 minutes (at least 5 minutes per customer) to be rung up and once I finally get to the cash they tell me that their credit card/debit machine is down! The woman (who seemed to be either a manager or owner) mentioned that there were signs up, but I didnāt see any. In any case, they could have just told me before I ordered my sandwich that I'd only be able to pay in cash. It's 2018, not many people carry cash, including myself. I get it, machines break, it happens, but I've never been to a business where they don't inform you beforehand that they are only taking cash. It was silly and unprofessional. They were definitely friendly but they wasted my time and they wasted a sandwich because one would only hope that they wouldn't try to refridgerate & then reheat that same sandwich and then sell it to someone else. Personally, if I owned the place, I would have just given the sandwich to the customer for free instead of losing a potential repeat customer, not to mention all the time that was wasted and frustration that was caused. I definitely would have been a repeat customer seeing as how they are right across the street from me but I won't go back. They wasted my time and more importantly, my valuable lunch break time. They may just be off to a rough start but one thing is for sure, I'll never go back to determine whether or not that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGo for the goodies, but not the gift cards.
I wanted to purchase a gift card this morning for a friend. What should have been an easy transaction turned out to be difficult. The server first helping me had to call another person to help, and this second person then had to call a third person. Apparently, the servers only had used gift cards that they were then recycling. They were trying to load $20 onto a used gift that already had a small amount. As a result, the gift card they handed me had a little over $20. On top of this, server #2 said they no longer had any gift card covers.
Suffice it to say, it doesn't look great to give a used gift card, with finger print smudges and the CVC sticker scratched off, and a little over $20 on it, sans gift card cover. My friend might assume I was just regifting a used card. When I pointed this out, server #3 offered to find a gift card cover and brought over several covers (despite server #2 originally saying they didn't any left...). When I pointed out that the gift card still had over $20, server #3 explained she'd have to check each of the used gift cards they had to find one with no leftover amount. Why not just put the difference on a gift card? Like any harried parent, I didn't have time to wait for them to sift through all their used gift cards, so I left. But I'd expect an establishment like Mamie Clafoutis to maintain a set of new gift cards with gift card covers so a 1 minute transaction doesn't take over 15 minutes, and so the customer doesn't come away feeling as though they're being inconvenient by making a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went there with my 9month old daughter and another mom and baby friend. I really enjoyed the different types of seating and that it wasnāt jam packed. I could easily walk around with my stroller. The line up to order and pay was a little odd however. Itās like a three sided counter situation with food on all of those sides. It all looked delish! You sort of line up in the middle and the people taking orders kinda asked what you would like but it wasnāt consistent where theyād ask what you wanted or even asked you to pay up. I wanted a latte so I ordered it from where I was standing then some one else asked if I wanted anything to eat on the far right counter which I ordered a pistachio chocoltina then the other employee asked me to pay by the from doors on the far left. It was confusing and didnāt seem to flow nicely. Like I said I ordered the pistachio chocoltina and it was amazingly delicious!! The latte however left little to be desired. The espresso was just ok and the foam was not smooth and shiny. It was really bubbly and the espresso shot was just dumped into the centre of the foam that was poured into the mug first. Itās a pastry shoppe more than a cafe it seems. Aside from the mediocre latte the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Iād be returning for the atmosphere and the...
