After years of searching, today I found the ultimate Jamaican-style patties in Ottawa-Gatineau. To me, The Piggy Market (bakery, deli and craft butcher shop), located in Canada’s National Capital Region’s Westboro neighbourhood, is making Jamaica proud!
Over many, years my Jamaican born family members and I have scoured Ottawa-Gatineau, Miami and Jamaica looking for a Jamaican-style patty that can be described as ‘nyam-ing’ perfection.
The Piggy Market delivers!
How do they achieve this? I believe that it’s all about their quality ingredients, mouth watering recipes, impactful blend of spices (flavourful heat) and a pastry shell that screams , “I am Jamaica Proud!”
Today we visited for the first time and tried their Beef patties and Jerk Chicken patties.
We’re saving our next visit for the Oxtail patties and any other patty menu items that we have yet to try.
Every week The Piggy Market highlights a unique specialty patty on their menu.
Note to the wise. Call in advance to find out what’s available—what’s on their patty...

Great variety of products all made in-house or locally. Fresh bread, lunches, artisan sausages & more. They even make a variety of Jamaican patties (also sold at Kichesippi - the main reason for us wanting to visit this place).
We grabbed the pork sandwich and a cold ginger pork noodle bowl.
The bread for the sandwich was crispy but not hard. The perfect combination for an even messier sandwich. The coleslaw was nice but I wanted it to be more inside the sandwich vs on top and more throughout instead of just on 2/3 of the bun.
The noodle dish had great flavours but we would have preferred more veggies in it. Even though it mostly carbs, it was still quite light and not heavy.
Will try to remember to update this post with sausages and Jamaican patties later as they are in the freezer for...

The beef patty was very flaky and the filling was awesome. The chicken patty still had a more dense pastry, but the filling was good. I would recommend the beef patty for sure!
This place sells tasty Seed to Sausage products and has good service. I decided to try a "Jamaican Patty" and while it was fairly good, I don't think it's right to call it a Jamaican patty. It's more like a British pasty. JA patties are supposed to have a very flaky pastry, but this one was very dense. The flavour was ok, but at $4 , I just expected a bit more depth. You can get a box of genuine Jamaican patties for $8-$12!!! But again, on its own, it's okay, but not when it's called a...
