Mr.Sub — Restaurant in Ottawa

I just want to leave this review to commend the owner on his patience and professionalism in a difficult situation. I was sitting enjoying my lunch and having a nice conversation with my friend when this girl walked in shouting at the owner because she wanted a glorified sub with EVERYTHING on the side. The owner told her he can’t do that as he doesn’t have containers big enough, however he can put the sauce on the side if she prefers. She continued to shout at him saying he can use a soup container for her sides. Again the owner, very calmly told her he cannot use those containers as they are made for soup not sub toppings. Apparently the girl didn’t like that and threatened to take this to the manager even though she was unknowingly yelling at the owner of the establishment. Anyway she eventually left without purchasing anything. I just wanted to bring this situation to the attention of Mr. Sub because the owner is genuinely the nicest, kindest, and most respectful person I have even met. Just enough meat in the sub to remind you that meat exists but not enough to taste.

I'm from Philly and am forever looking for a cheesesteak that resembles a cheesesteak. This one would be close if it had more meat and cheese. Sauteed onions would also be a huge plus. Similar to the meat on the sub they gave just enough cheese so that if you examin the contents closely you may find traces of its existence. I also ordered marinara, a common topping for a cheese steak but less well known outside of PA and NJ. It seemed to make the sandwich prepareres nervous and they applied a few atoms of marinara likely out of concern for my well being, maybe figuring my finger slipped while ordering but wanting to honour the request technically. I thank you for your concern but I did indeed actually want marinara. I will not be ordering again, but next time you see such an order you can confidently apply a detectable amount of marinara. Worst experience at any Mr. sub I’ve ever been to in my life. With no waiting line, my sub was rushed, sloppy and made incorrectly. When I addressed the issue, I was met with confrontation and told multiple times to make sure the next time I come in I communicate better. The addition of eye rolls and being stared at uncomfortable by the one worker was an addition.As someone who just relocated to Ottawa, and has enjoyed Mr. Sub for many years making it a tradition almost to eat one once a week, this location has resonated a bad taste in my mouth and business from a die hard Mr. Sub fan has been lost.
