First, let’s get this out there:
Mucho Burrito was never intended to taste great. Like Subway, it’s more akin to that cadre of fast-food options where, half an hour after eating it, you’re still vaguely interested in living.
It’s meant to be a little less heavy. A little less unhealthy. A little less despicable to consume on a Thursday where you didn’t bring a lunch to work.
But here’s the thing: It just isn’t good.
You can load that burrito with toppings like a teenage boy loads a preferred sock — it doesn’t matter — you’re still eating wallpaper. You can get those tortilla chips and eat that orange goo they call queso too, but you’re still walking out of there depressed.
The other thing is that the staff turn over at this particular location so often, you will get asked whether you want the chips, cheese goo, and a diabetes drink, about three times before you make it to the end of the factory line. You’d think new staff are found waiting for the 88 Terry Fox just outside the entrance. Only we can probably rule that out since a sheet of 8x11 reading: “No loitering while waiting for bus” was scotch-taped to the door the last time I was there.
It was -22...
Read moreAwful awful awful service. Ordered online via their app. Arrived at scheduled time. Staff claimed I never placed an order (not "we can't find it", but "YOU ARE A LIAR" type reaction. ANGRY little man made me show him my phone to prove I had ordered and prepaid, grumpily entered the order number on his terminal, then voila, located the order and printed it off. I was nice as can be; with Covid-19 I know things get delayed and stuff can happen, but this jerk decided early on it was my fault that the order wasn't there and made every aspect of our interaction unpleasant and confrontational. A simple "sorry for the screw-up, lets make it fresh now" and the whole thing would have been forgotten. He now has a printout in front of him, of what I had ordered, then gruffly questions EVERYTHING about the order. Argued about my choice of sauce, contents of the burrito, just unpleasant and hostile. Left the main protein out completely and was angry with ME for pointing it out. Ironically the food was decent quality, but if I have to deal with this lunacy again, won't...
Read moreThis is what it is… a chain fast food place. DO NOT ORDER THE MUCHO SIZE UNLESS YOU ARE STARVING, or have the metabolism of a teenager. The medium is plenty. You get a generous amount for a reasonable price, but ask for extra grilled peppers.. makes it even better!
I am a food snob, but I also like diners and dives. I do like the food here and nothing I have ever had there presented as greasy. They grill the meat, which means the fat ends up going up in smoke. I have the chicken all the time, and have had the beef once. I wasn't as fond of the shredded beef as the chunked chicken. Perhaps I will try the chunked steak and see if I prefer it to the shredded beef, thanks to the other reviewer for pointing out it was available.
The Subway comparison rings true in that you get to make it your own way by selecting what goes on it. I recommend lots of cilantro. And yes, it's also messy. If you want to avoid messy, skip the burrito sauce. I like the taste of it, but it is a touch runny and makes the final few...
