My husband & I have come to this restaurant a few times & our experience has been different every time. The first time, it was absolutely incredible! We ordered Pad Kee Mao & Panang. Both of these dishes were so delicious! We decided this was our new favourite Thai restaurant! Our second time here, we ordered the Pad Kee Mao again, because it was just so good the first time! The second dish we ordered was Pad Thai. This dish wasn’t that great! The third time we ordered Pad Kee Mao once again, because we just love it so much & must be ordered at every visit! This time our 2nd dish we ordered was the same as our 1st time here, since it was our best experience & we wanted to make sure we were fully satisfied. We were very happy that it was just as tasty as our 1st time here. So, for our 4th time here, we brought 2 of our friends here to brag about it! We ordered our 2 favourite dishes as well as Pad Thai & I can’t remember what the 4th dish was. This time I was pretty disappointed! My favourite Pad Kee Mao dish was not nearly as tasty as it usually was. My friends didn’t really understand why we raved about it so much. We explained that it’s usually extremely flavourful, but this time it was missing that incredible flavour we love so much! Despite our disappointment, we didn’t want to “give up” on this restaurant & hoped that this experience was a fluke; so we came back for a 5th visit. We went back to our 2 favourite dishes again. The Panang continues to be fabulous, but the Pad Kee Mao, sadly disappointed us once again. It went from being our TOP FAVOURITE dish, to extremely disappointing! That AMAZING flavour we love so much & CRAVE so much is gone! We mentioned it to the waiter & he acted like he didn’t care & assured us that it was made the same as usual. I knew that wasn’t true, because I have tastebuds! They have obviously changed the recipe! There is a distinct ingredient missing! One that is very necessary for this particular dish. We have now lost hope in this restaurant. We will no longer be going to this restaurant for Pad Kee Mao! Good-bye Phuket Royal. Hopefully you bring back your incredible flavours that make people want to come back for particular dish. We will be going back to Siam Bistro for Pad Kee Mao from now on. We have not yet been disappointed with any of the...
Read moreThis was our last stop for food while visiting Ottawa. We've been here a few times and love it. They are located in Chinatown as well and is very spacious and comfortable seating. They use a lot of Thai decorations as this is a traditional Thai restaurant. On weekends they are not as busy because most people that eat here are office workers, Ottawa is a quiet city during the weekend as most workers are Government and don't work on the weekends.
Service is quick and polite and their food is very authentic. My wife and I ordered a few dishes to share which was very delicious and savoury. We ordered the Bun with pork, chicken, and spring rolls, an order of Pad Thai and the Neur Nam Tok. The Bun which more of a Vietnamese dish but they all eat the same style food since Thailand, Vietnam and Laos are located in the same region. The Bun is a dry style vermicelli noodle dish usually with some shredded lettuce, bean sprouts fresh veggies topped with some sort of grilled meat then you mix it all up with a small bowl of sweetened fish sauce. The meats were very flavourful marinated with lemongrass. The Pad Thai is made with stir frying rice noodles with some bean sprouts and veggies along with chicken for this one we ordered and the flavour was good authentic tasting. The Neur Nam Tok is made for sliced beef mint leaves, lettuce, spring onions, spices basically a Thai beef salad.
I think this will be a habit every time we are in town to visit...
Read moreDropped by here with my mom on a whim and I'm so glad I did. We just managed beat the lunch rush when we were seated so the place was nice and mellow. They had a/c blasting which was a nice reprieve from the 28 deg weather outside
They gave us a complimentary teapot of lemongrass tea - it smelled lovely but we would have enjoued it more if it were cooler. Ended up getting the thai iced tea which was a sort of milk tea, tom yum soup, pineapple and basil fried rice and pad thai. We chose shrimp as our protein for all 3 dishes since we wanted something nice and light in the heat.
What we forgot to account for were the portion sizes. They're huge!!! Each dish could easily feed 2-3 people depending on how hungry you are and were piping hot and fresh. The next time we come back, we'll likely get the drinks and soup again but split a main dish.
As a side note, this place offers a variety of customization options (eg. If you're vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, etc) and the service was very quick and friendly. It's a little bit of an older place since it's in the heart of Chinatown but you could tell they put effort into keeping it nice and tidy.
Mom and I both...
