Sir John A Pub — Restaurant in Ottawa

For my Instagram post: Last week my Toronto friend Deanna was in #Ottawa and we ate at bars and restaurants. And it occurred to me that I could do that on my own, to chat with a bartender for company. So I came to @sirjohnaelgin and realized that bartenders now wear masks, which makes it hard to talk to them even if they wanted to talk to me. Argh! This is so typical of my life. 😷 And for my Google review: Outside I looked at the menu and decide on the Cajun burger. I asked sit at the bar bartender that’s what I want right away I said burger before even seeing the menu. Another server said “Wow, he knows what he wants!” I told her I read the me menu outside. I was proud to look decisive. Normally it takes me forever to decide what to eat. The burger was delicious. There was an abundance of fries. I just wrote this new one for my Instagram about last night's visit at midnight on July 26, 2022: Last night after my standup comedy class and watching the new talent night at @absoluteottawa, I walked to Elgin Street @elginstreetdiaries and noticed the @sirjohnaelgin patio was open. A group of guys were having a fun discussion about @nathanfielder's new show. The hostess came up and asked if I wanted a table and she's told me the kitchen was open till 1 PM. I felt like being part of the festive atmosphere, so I got a little table alone. I ordered the Sir John A burger and an orange juice. I was impressed that the chef left the lettuce, tomato and onion on the plate for me to add to the burger myself, so they didn't wilt before hand. And afterward, the server asked if I wanted dessert so I decided to get apple crumble with ice cream. It was all delicious. The apple crumble was a big size, and I liked how the chef took extra care to add whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel. I remembered I had talked to the server when she was working behind the bar a couple of years ago and I think I made up a nickname for her which she liked, and we couldn't remember what it was, but I will keep thinking. It might've had to do with her Halloween costume...

Tried bourbon lime and tender chicken . Food was served hot and it's good . You can definitely try bourbon lime . I think it's somewhere around 9pm we entered this Saturday , since it was crowded inside, we both decided to take patio . Giving 1 star rating because we Didn't like the girl attitude in the front table ,the one who received us. Once we took the table ,she came outside after few min to keep the starter I guess and gave a wired look at me for no reason . She kind of dragged the chair before us and made noise with those table outside the patio with full anger attitude on her face. Poor chairs .i was wondering what's the problem with her . It hurted me so badly . me and my husband came there to spend some quality time ,but that particular waitress or front desk girl spoiled our mood,we didn't like her rude attitude. As if she is serving us for free. And I have to mention there was one other waitress ,the one with two cute pony tails ,she was so charming she took our orders and served us drink with big smile till the check.it was kind of mixed emotions .

If you are reading this, this to you miss, do not show your anger and rude attitude to any of your customers. Many of us are 9 to 5 working people,working hard throughout the week and maintaing families and balacing personal emotions and also our families back in our country ,we are drained throughout our weekdays,we have only Saturday night left for us to be in peace ,please respect it and try not to spoil our moods and yours too . May what try to Keep smiling and make your customers happy ☺

If the owner is reading,sir be wise when you pick your waitresses to retain your customers...

I walked in this place soon after they opened, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to get so it took me some time trying to figure out what I want, then what seemed to be the owner or manager approached me and in a very pushy way he told me what drink did I want, I told him I just need some time to figure out what I want and he kept being pushy with me telling me the bartender has to go do some opening work with him so I told him she can go with you and take as long as she wants when she’s back I will have decided what I want by then, he then told me we’re closed please get out, with people in the bar still eating, I was surprised because me needing more time to decide should be 100% acceptable, I then went to the bar across the street, they were very nice and I told the person about what happened and he was shocked that someone in the hospitality industry would do something like this. This took place about 7 months ago, it just shows you how bad the service was, and how annoyed I was at getting kicked out for something like needing more time to decide what drink I want and by a...
