So excited that Tru Tea opened a location in Ottawa. There's no external signage though, so I walked by it so many times not even knowing it existed. I think it started as a ghost kitchen business only available through Doordash and Fantuan, but then about a month later it popped up on UberEats and that's how I ordered. When I went for pickup I asked if you can also order in-store and if they plan to be a regular store with seating and they said yes, you can currently order in-store and in the future they will be like a regular bubble tea shop with seating. Yay!
I got the Strawberry Trupioca and it was good but too sweet for me. I asked for no sugar, but it was still so sweet, lol. It's a strawberry slushy on top of a layer of milk with "Trupioca" which is like agar bubbles. They were springy and delicious.
It was $8.35 which is a bit pricier than other chains but it had real strawberry puree and was tasty. I would have liked more Trupioca...
Read moreSecond time here. ZWe had a milk tea and a peach tea, both with regular pearls and an extra serving of brown sugar pearls.
Pros: friendly service flavour of the milk tea and peach tea were quite good
Cons: we ordered extra pearls because we saw how little pearls were put in the drink before us. 2 servings of pearls here is like a regular serving at chatime/coco/kungfu etc the pearls had no flavour and were a bit too soft both drinks didn’t have enough ice. The ice in the peach green tea drink all melted by the time we left the place, resulting in a lukewarm drink, not very enticing to drink haha
Overall if the ice and pearl issues are addressed we’d go...
Read moreOverall spectacular service and decent atmosphere, however the drinks are a different story. Been multiple times to try a variety of drinks but, everything has been underwhelming every time. I have tried the milk tea on two occasions but the tea flavour was nowhere to be found. Starting off with the tapioca, very mediocre. Don't know what it is, but the tapioca is never soft no matter what time of day. I also tried the vegan jelly, which was just barely sweet with no additional flavouring; felt like it was simply there for the contrast in texture. While there are a lot of options that we've never seen before in Ottawa, it wouldn't be my first place to try...
