Umbrella Burger (Ogilvie) — Restaurant in Ottawa

I usually order from Ubereats and decided to come in today to visit with my daughter. I wanted to treat us to a nice dinner and support a relatively new local business. However, the staff is talking about inappropriate topics (relationship status, calling each other racists) and one worker in the kitchen with a NY baseball cap keeps eating the fries from a big silver bowl while cooking at the same time. It’s very disgusting and now I feel too uncomfortable to say anything as there’s like 5 workers and just me and my daughter.

I understand you can have banter while working but keep it professional! It’s an open kitchen where the patrons can hear and see everything you’re saying and doing. Please be mindful and aware in the future. And my daughter’s asking me about what the workers are talking about and I don’t know how to answer her!

I advised the front cashier (a young woman) about the worker eating the fries in plain view while working and she just smiled at me and wished me a nice day.

Umbrella Bar at Dows Lake has an amazing reputation for their food & service and I don’t know if Umbrella Burger is affiliated but I was expecting at least some decent service and basic hand hygiene.

During a recent holiday, with only a few restaurants open, I found myself hesitant to step into this seemingly empty burger place. My concerns about the lack of patrons were quickly overshadowed by one of the best dining burger dining experiences I've had in a while.

The moment I took my first bite of the burger, any previous judgments were gone. The burger was nothing short of amazing, with a taste that practically melted in my mouth. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, making it clear that quality ingredients were used. Accompanying the burger were fries that were equally impressive—crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned, they were a delight to eat.

Adding to the positive experience was the state of the washroom. Often an overlooked aspect of dining, the washroom in this establishment was pristine, a testament to the restaurant's commitment to cleanliness and customer satisfaction.

I have ordered Umbrella Burger several times through delivery apps and it has been excellent every time. The double burger is a large, tasty burger, generously topped with fresh ingredients. It's what a burger should be! The poutine is delicious and authentic with good crispy fries, real cheese curds, and a thick, dark brown gravy which is packaged separately to keep the fries from getting soggy. The surprising winners though are the chicken sandwich and the mac n cheese. The chicken sandwich is a large, juicy, breaded and fried chicken breast on a brioche bun packed with an amazing slaw, crispy pickles and a delicious sauce. You won't find a better chicken sandwich anywhere else! The mac and cheese is also incredible, homemade with creamy layers of cheese and a smoky flavour that made me crave it enough to order it again!
