We really wanted to like the Trestle Brewery Company restaurant, but were disappointed on more than one occasion over 2 separate summers.
Our first experience during the summer of 2021 was a total disaster, partly because of bad weather conditions but mostly because of poor management of that situation. We had booked our reservation several weeks in advance because we were visiting from out of town and we knew they were popular. There happened to be severe thunderstorms the morning of our reservation day. After the storm seemed to have passed, we went to the restaurant early to see if we could get an earlier seating and were told that they had closed during the storm and to come back for our original reservation time. So, we went to kill an hour and half in town, and when we returned for our reservation time, we were told that all reservations for the WHOLE day were canceled (even though it was sunny and beautiful by our reservation time), and that we could be put on a 1 hour wait list. We said no thank you because there was no way our hangry 6 year old could have waited that much longer. We left feeling very frustrated and disappointed because we were really looking forward to the experience, and we felt that no logical effort was made in keeping/prioritizing the reservations that were not affected by the storm. (We rushed to The Kart food truck in the Canadian Tire parking lot for some emergency lunch and discovered that they probably make the best fries in town). We also had not receive any email or phone notification to communicate that our reservation had been canceled. I cannot emphasize how frustrated we felt.
Needless to say, after all that we made a new reservation for the next day. The customer service was satisfactory, the food was ok but expensive for what it was and we were charged $1 for a side of basic mustard. The view was pretty much the only thing we enjoyed.
We found ourselves visiting Parry Sound again this past week. We thought we’d give the Trestle experience an other try. They seemed more organized than last year. The hostess was on the ball with letting us know about new menu items since our last visit but we didn’t try anything new. Our server wasn’t able to answer all of our ingredients related menu questions off the top of their head but was good about getting answers quickly. Our 7 year old had the chicken tenders from the kids menu and said they were spicy. We were again charged $1 for a side of basic mustard and feel that the food is still overpriced for what it is.
We don’t plan on visiting Trestle for any future dine in experiences. We’ll still buy their beer from their merch shop (we enjoyed the salt dock jump as a nice summer beer).
For those inclined to check out any restaurant in Parry Sound, it’s best to make a reservation. If you try to walk in and they say there’s a wait but you see empty tables, that because there are staffing issues at a lot of establishments and in...
Read moreOk, so we go to Trestle almost every time we visit Parry Sound and our friends cottage. That's at least 4+ times over the Summer and we like this place,we really do......but before I get into the issue I need to raise after today's visit, our server Hannah was EXCELLENT & she made our visit fantastic!
If we didn't have Hannah and the other servers taking care of us, I think I'd give a lower star because this has everything to do with the menu and their selection, especially lack thereof!
My wife is celiac and has a terrible gluten allergy and we don't go to most restaurants without doing some homework because usually she only has salads to select from. Let me tell you how fun that is! Hope you can pick up my sarcasm! Hannah (our server) did try to throw some combos to the wifey and seemed very educated about my wife's situation and allergies in general. Which is awesome but my wife still has zero options still. So sad!
So, I'm pleading to you and all restaurants to have dedicated fryers and better options than just salads for these amazing people and customers that have a significant wallet if you can find a way to accommodate.
We live in a beautiful city (GTA) with a plethora of options and technology, along with opportunities to balance kitchens so much better than before and I still don't understand how you guys (restaurant businesses) haven't picked up a HUGE opportunity and lucrative one if you focus on more options for your customers. And it's really not breaking the bank either. You just gotta be more mindful of what you bring into your kitchen/areas especially at a time where everyone and more businesses should be more conscious about this.
Anyhow, I know my long winded message isn't from my own perspective because I can eat anything since I am very fortunate to not have any allergies.
My last pitch is, if my wife could potentially eat better options than "SALADS" we would love to indulge more in restaurants and places to go and eat.
Think about it....ie; restaurants $$$
Thanks...
Read moreHere's the reason I'm giving this place 2 stars. Firstly, the food and service were excellent, that was not the issue. The reason this is getting a 2 star review is directly due to the owner. We were there this evening as part of a kids hockey team. We selected this restaurant based on a friendly recommendation, and even emailed well ahead of time to ensure there were no issues with bringing kids (it is a brewery after all). The kids were well behaved for the most part (one spilled/broken glass which is why most places give kids plastic, but I accept responsibility). We all enjoyed a solid 2 hours there, with (again) great service and food. Things were fine until the end of the night, when suddenly an adult across the bar started yelling at the kids. What happened was two of the kids were trying to pick each other up..something along those lines, and the parents didn't immediately notice. Fine, no harm, no foul. I went over to talk to the person who yelled, and discovered it was the owner. I asked what happened, he said (rudely) that he didn't like kids rough housing in his bar. I said ok, but perhaps next time come and talk to the parents first...clearly they missed it (and if you have kids, you know how easy that is). He replied with something along the lines of 'the parents saw and ignored it, but it didn't matter because we were on our way out.' My issue with this whole conversation is that we literally just finished spending a decent amount of money here, only to be told off after doing so by this owner. As a small business owner, there is a need to understand how customer service works, and how to behave with some diplomacy in these types of situations. Instead, this person decided that 'don't come around here no more' is a better motto. So, if you're a family, long story short...don't come to this place. Even if you tell them ahead of time, you'll still be made to feel like you aren't welcome....after you've...
