We've been meaning to stop into Apollo Burger when passing through the Peterborough area for years. Today we finally did, and we were not disappointed.

Upon entering, the first thing we noticed was the amazing 50's diner inspired decor touches, complete with checkerboard floor tiles. We arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday, so it was quick and easy to be served and find a seat, although I hear that on Friday and Saturday nights the place is hopping. Knowing that it was a popular local joint, I was expecting some good diner eats.

Given that this was our first time here, we wanted to try a few of the many things the menu had to offer, so between the two of us we ordered: a double and a single cheeseburger (with our choice of an assortment of fresh toppings), a regular order each of french fries, sweet potato fries, and onion rings, along with two fountain colas. The burgers were fresh, juicy, flavourful, and excellently prepared. The sides were equally done to perfection, hot and crisp from the fryer.

One thing that did stand out to us though, is that this place is immaculately clean, and I mean the entire place. I know food establishments need to adhere to strict cleanliness guidelines, and I would expect that the food preparation areas would be spotless, however Apollo Grill seems to take this far more seriously out in the dining area than a lot of other places. Additionally, given the current COVID-19 situation they supply hand sanitizer at the door and have accommodated dine-in seating with responsible physical distancing, along with a plexiglass partition at the counter.

As should always be mentioned, the hardworking staff behind the counter. They all seem very friendly, efficient, but above all, happy to help a first timer navigate the menu.

All in all, in our opinion Apollo Grill is definitely a place to stop when in the Peterborough area. We will definitely visit again and now wish we had done it sooner!

Note: In addition to the Lansdowne St. location we visited, a second Apollo Grill is located on...

Long time Peterborough resident, and can’t tell you why I haven’t stopped in… but I did, finally… and Wow. An almost ‘speechless type’ of wow. I am a homemade burger kinda guy (I mean I make my own), and I thought I had it nailed… I stand corrected, well… challenged I’ll say.

Much like another reviewer here, we hit up a range of favourites; poutine, sweet potato fries (w/ curry mayo, yum), onion rings, and quartet of Apollo's burgers, a few doubles, and singles for the kids.

Right away, first bite, you know…

the beef flavour sung triumphantly, even amidst the delightful layers of fresh onion, tomato, cheese, lettuce and a thick deli pickle slice, and… ‘that sauce’… nice. Not over-done, balanced and complimenting the splendour of it all.

After the shock wore off, the realization followed… I am kicking myself! Why did I wait so long? I must have said it a million times, ‘I gotta… one day… must remember to… ’, well no more, it’s done. Our first visit is now in the bag (literally as we did takeout) and lo’ the flavour angels did sing.

I can hear what you are saying, ‘It’s just a burger, relax’…. I feel for you… you need to get back to livin’, get back that ‘food love’ feeling like you once had long ago. Anyway… our family met over this fabulous feast, and we are all agreed; Apollo is being drawn into the fold, and if one burger place is in, another is out. C’mon, you know it, that’s the way it is, I won’t mention names.

All I know is we are finally moving towards tasty burger horizons, for now and for ever. Won’t you follow burger lover? C’mon… they who...

Very good food, super fresh, made exactly the way you like it with your choices of freshly sautéed mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes, or a variety of ultra fresh toppings. There is plenty of room to dine in or you can take out. The restaurant is immaculate, the tables and chairs are spotless. There is a simple and cool retro vibe that is tasteful and interesting. The onion rings are excellent and go very well dipped in the tasty gravey btw. Follow that up with a creamy Central Smith's fresh milkshake or a good cup of coffee, or cola. You can't help but notice the many awards they have undeniably earned year after year. If you haven't yet visited Apollo's, you are missing out! Don't forget to leave a tip in the jar next to the cash, especially if you enjoyed dining in and table service - Appolo's certainly deserve it! This is not a noisy place so you might enjoy dining in where you can relax and have a conversation. If there was a 4.5 rating, I would...

High quality burger. They grind steak to make their burgers! In their Cajun chicken burger, the chicken breast is huge and is high quality meat. You have to like the Cajun flavour to enjoy it though. It was a little overbaked. Even if you don't like pickles, don't remove them from this sandwich. It needs the refreshing flavour. If you must, then add a tomato. Fries are a tiny bit greasy. Huge fry portions. Two baskets of fries feed about 3-5 adults. A bit pricy of a place, but you get quality in their sandwiches. Kind service! Retro style place. Bathroom has been repaired and redone. The previous review indicated they had a bathroom problem. After reading the owner's response, I am adding that it was a temporary situation where a repairman accidentally put his foot through the ceiling tiles when he was working up in the ceiling fixing a walk-in cooler nearby. See the owner's comments in my review. *See my pics for food, restaurant, and bathroom pics.
