Big Ben's Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Peterborough

Upon first entering the cavernous space, the lighting seemed brash and irritating. Not inviting at all. If you want cozy, this would be the exact opposite. We sat at the last available table, right in front of the server's station adjacent to the kitchen.

Ordering was fairly easy, but was not as efficient as it could have been due to a lack of options for kids. The wait staff was polite and did a good job with what she had to deal with, however she should have brought a round of water while we waited for the meals.

Eventually the underwhelming meals arrived. Typical of fish and chips joints in my opinion. Not exciting. Not all that tasty or memorable due in part for the overcooked fries and messed up order. My plate of scallops and salad completely lacked any imagination or enthusiasm by the cook. They could have done considerably better for their $18.95. Half a plate of salad and 7 golf ball sized battered scallops left me not wanting more. I just wanted to leave.

The wait staff seemed disjointed and clearly lacked any sense of organization or any authority. In addition the idea of a guy dragging a mop bucket past your table while you eat, to mop up the floor is a real turn off for me as a patron.

If you want atmosphere, good food with flavour and a relatively warm environment, this is not for you. Look elsewhere and avoid disappointment. If you are okay with questionable quality food and can deal with slow take-out service, perhaps give it a go. You've...

I visit family in Peterborough regularly and this time I thought to treat lunch. I ordered from the road in advance to give everyone time to prepare without waiting in line. 8 pieces of halibut, 5 orders of French fries well done and 4 sides of coleslaw. Everything was ready as I pulled up to the store. They also provided a generous supply of condiments without asking. The halibut was cut nice and thick with a very light crispy batter. Not greasy like in the city that I'm accustom to. Servet the owner also came out to great me and thank me for the business. Olivia was the lady that organized my order without any disappointment. I will definitely be back for more and more F&C from this establishment. I must mention on my arrival I used the restrooms. On our way to Peterborough Music Fest one July Saturday night and thought we’d get some fish and chips. Good reviews so we wound up here. Two orders of scallops and chips, scallops were so tiny, had to ask for seafood sauce, chips were, as can be seen in the photo, extremely well done as if re-heated & soggy. The best/worst part is that we paid $50.29 for these two dinners + tip, no coleslaw or anything else besides a glass of water with lemon which I’d asked for in the water. We’re out-of-towners so hoping that maybe there is another place with better food for our money.
