Jeff Purvey's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Peterborough

Well, found a customer today at the original Purvey's location, with a pretty serious problem. Was at the Rubidge location to pick up the order I had phoned in. Met a customer out front, in a wheelchair who could not access the building, as there are 3 steps up to get in the main entrance. There appears to access from the back parking lot door but it was closed today. Had a sign in window telling customers to use main entrance. Informed staff that there was a customer outside trying to get their attention through the front elevated window for over 10 minutes. They came out to take his order, but couldn't accept his payment by debit, as their remote debit pad wasn't working. He offered to hand me his card to go in and pay and I refused. Paid for his chicken finger order to help him out. Called back to inform the manager of this issue and circumstances. He assured me that this will be passed on to the owner. I personally will follow up to ensure something is done to help with this circumstance. Even if it means just putting up a sign to say "Sorry, this location is not Wheelchair accessible, please call to place order and arrange pickup". I'll give this location a 4 ⭐ so far, for the food & a 3 ⭐ for service. Still like the Chemong location better, which is accessible, but they weren't open today. Will update rating if they can help with access for those less fortunate. Have some arthritis myself and saw someone in distress, in the shape I may be in soon, some day who needed some help. Did what I could and hope they can at least put up a sign...

STOPPED BY HERE ON THE WAY HOME FROM A WEEKEND OUT IN LAKEFIELD. WE GRABBED A HALIBUT N CHIPS (2/5), A PICKEREL N CHIPS (5/5), AND A SIDE ORDER OF ONION RINGS (4/5). THE BATTER ON EVERYTHING WAS NICE AND CRISPY, BUT OVERALL, EVERYTHING NEEDS A JUST A PINCH OF SALT, EVEN THE FRIES. THEY WERE SLIGHTLY SOGGY BUT STILL HOT AND FRESH. HALIBUT IS TYPICALLY A SLIGHTLY DRYER FISH BUT THE PIECE I GOT WAS INSANELY DRY AND HARD. IT HAD A BITE/CHEW TO IT WHICH WAS A TAD UNPLEASANT. THE PICKEREL WAS AMAZING!! I RECOMMEND THIS ONE!! NOT A LOT OF PLACES EVEN OFFER PICKEREL AT ALL!! IF YOURE IN THE TOWN OF PETERBOROUGH, MAKE A STOP HERE AND GET SOME FRIED...

When I first walked in it was a great atmosphere. A little dated but comfy nonetheless. Our server came over, handed us menus and then went away. When she came back to take our order, I had asked (jokingly) if the clam strips came with bellies. She looked at me like I just told her off. Although it was busy, I expect a little manners and maybe some appreciation for the business we were giving them. She did not return to check it all of our food was OK or to refill our drinks. Horrible service. Not a smile on her mug.
