One horrible experience voided the two other enjoyable ones I had. I went there three times and truly enjoyed the food and service that was provided. The two first times I went, I was greeted by a pleasant tall gentleman who wore glasses. He was telling my husband and I how he worked with his father and they've been running this establishment for a number of years. He took pride in their fresh ingredients, homemade tzatziki and hormone free meat. The food was amazing and the price was good.
The third time I've been, I only went to order a greek salad. My hubby and I were having a picnic and wanted a side to add to our BBQ. The woman who was behind the counter (heavy set, white with black hair) looked at me from head to toe with a look on her face like "really? " Then she told me in a rude tone that I had to take off my sunglasses because it would 'intimidate the patrons' that I was 'all masked out' while wearing sunglasses. People were sitting down, chatting and eating and not even looking at me. I have no idea what her problem was but she was extremely rude and condescending.
My impression is that she was ticked off that I only ordered a salad and wanted to upset me. She kept saying that I need to take the glasses off and I told her over and over, I can't see properly without them and there's no law against wearing a pair of shades with the face covering. Another patron who was standing beside me just shook his head in disbelief.
Not once have I ever been told to take off my sunglasses and I've been to banks, pharmacies and a few restaurants since they started reopening. I see people wearing shades and masks all of the time, everywhere and never heard anyone being told to take off their sunglasses.
I told her that I had to wear them because of my vision and my sunglasses had prescription. She did a face and rolled her eyes right in front of me, thinking that I couldn't see her. The attitude of that woman was shocking and completely uncalled for. Despite the strong desire to flat out argue with her and ask her what's her problem, I kept calm out of respect towards the owner (the older gentleman who was behind the grill) and his son whom my husband and I appreciate. I regret him not being there that day, but I will ensure he hears of it.
When I opened up my salad, unlike the other times when the dad made them, it was a bunch of lettuce with barely anything else aside from cheese and drenched in olive oil. The dad made them so good with plenty of cucumbers, tomatoes onions and olives. Too bad he was busy behind the grill. This woman not only talked down to me but messed with my food which honestly, took away the pleasant interactions I had before.
Needless to say, her nasty attitude was a complete turn off. If I pass there again and see her I will not order food but I will definitely go speak to the son of the owner the next time I see him. I pray to god that she's there so I can call her out on what she did in front of him.
Isn't the intent to try building up business as we get through the pandemic? Shouldnt all customers be treated equally despite the size of their order? This place is definitely a spot where regulars go to, so not having seen me before, she probably figured " i don't care she won't give me business, or i'll never see her again. "
Little that she knows that my husband and I always come to Peterborough and love supporting local businesses and are in good terms with the son of the owner. Mind you, I suspect she might be his sister because he mentioned that she works with them but wasn't in the two previous times. Honestly, if she is, she definitely doesn't share her brother's social skills and kind nature.
Regardless of who that woman is, she should get fired because she can potentially cause the owner and son to lose a lot of business. Try for yourselves, go in wearing sunglasses and a mask and only order a salad and see the treatment you'll...
Read moreEdit I have just noticed that instead of addressing my concerns properly this establishment has decided to lie and claim that I harassed their staff! Imagine feeling harassed because you aren't wheelchair accessible! I never swore at your staff and they certainly never directed me to your Facebook page for a menu or mentioned anything like what you claimed. I honestly can't believe that you are choosing to lie. Very very disappointed.
Look at your reviews. I'm not the only one who had a bad customer service experience. I'm not harassing you, I have never harassed your staff. I left an honest review. It is a shame the honesty stopped with me.**
My family and I decided to come here for takeout on Canada Day 2023. I quickly realized my Mother was not going to be able to get her wheelchair into the restaurant. That's fine, we are used to this. I went inside and waited in line with the hopes of getting a paper copy of the menu to bring out to my Mom. After watching the woman at the counter glare mockingly at the gentleman in front of me who simply asked for a cup of ice it was my turn to approach. I was told they had no paper menus. So I asked "How is my Mom going to order without a menu?" The woman at the counter threw her hands over her chest as if I had been out of line with my question. She accused me of rudeness when all I wanted was a way for my handicap mother (a fellow human being, who was actually really excited to try the food) to see the menu from the parking lot. She tried to tell me that they had no paper menus and couldn't get any more from their supplier. If they cared about their customers they would figure something out. Pen and paper exists. Compassion exists.
Treating a customer this way is not okay. Don't make a scene and accuse me of rudeness simply because YOU obviously don't cater to disabled people.
I will never ever spend any of my money at this restaurant. If you are disabled I suggest you steer well clear...
Read moreThe hateful comments are obviously from people who have too much time on their hands and a hateful vendetta. How sad. This family has been in business for over 30 something years, and it is a staple in this community. They're lovely, hard-working people. I love their food. Especially the Chicken Souvlaki with rice, salad, fries, and gravey. I highly recommend it. No one is rude, and some people seem to unfortunately misunderstand the daughter, who everyone is saying such nasty things about, which I don't understand. She has never once been rude to me, and anytime I'm there, she isn't rude to anyone. She usually goes out of her way to make conversation. Because it's a small, family owned restaurant, they don't have a debit machine. They have an ATM machine, though. If that upsets you, please bring cash! Having a debit machine costs businesses more money, hence the ATM. If you come in and complain about things, of course they're going to get annoyed. The obsessively bad reviews are obviously made up by people who have nothing better to do. It's weird. Since Covid, it seems as though people forgot how to be kind, and the reviews show the smear campaign is unfortunately alive and well. Contrary to the other reviews, the food is NOT pricy. It's actually relatively cheap, and you get pretty good bang for your buck. What I order is around $16.00 or so, depending on what I get. If you were to go to other Greek restaurants in town, it's more like $30.00 Be kind! Again, I...
