OMG! RUN!! DON'T WALK - to Levantine Grill at the corner of Charlotte and Park in the awesome wedge building! We stopped by on a whim, while actually intending to head downtown to our other spot for middle eastern food. We couldn't have been any more impressed with this place!!!
We both ordered the Chicken Shawarma Wrap and I ordered a Zaatar lamajoun (they call it pie) on the side.
Their shawarma is like no other - served on a super thin, soft and flakey, but also amazingly chewy flatbread, stuffed to the brim with seriously fresh toppings. The sauces are clearly made with care - the garlic was not overpowering at all, but was intensely flavoured and perfectly balanced. What made it stand apart from any other shawarma I've had in Canada, they top it with a sweet pomegranate syrup that made all of the flavours in the wrap just POP with another level! The Zaatar pie was made fresh, piping hot, soft and flakey with the perfect blend of thyme, sumac, sesame and olive oil. It was perfect.
The interior where they offer dine-in and have an open-style kitchen was so clean, freshly decorated and super inviting. Hand wash station as opposed to wasteful paper napkins was a super bonus - eco conscious too!!
They have an adorable patio area atop astroturf, that was pet friendly and nicely covered with umbrellas.
This place is top notch, next-level food - I'd say you would be hard-pressed to find anything better, honestly. Hats off to the wonderful owner, who proudly introduced himself and thanked us for visiting. We will most definitely be back, and with more friends and family!
Sorry for my already chowed down on food - we couldn't resist digging in, and then couldn't...
Read moreSo, I’m originally from Scarborough. Just up the street from where I lived was one of the best shawarma restaurants, always packed with people and well known even outside of the neighborhood. I’ve been eating shawarma for most of my life. Ever since I moved to the area I’ve tried to find a decent shawarma place and every time I tried a new place all I could think was “this isn’t how it should be, I miss Scarborough.” This place didn’t make me feel like that though. The shawarma was delicious, and so was the kibbeh. The salads looked super fresh and I was tempted to get some tabouleh but didn’t end up getting it, definitely will next time. I got a spinach and mixed cheese pie for my son. I was expecting almost a quiche type of thing, but it’s like a pita pizza. My son ate the whole thing on his own. On top of that, the service was amazing. Super friendly people. One of the gentlemen working there opened the door for me when I was coming in because I had a double stroller. I had gone back up to the counter to get a water bottle when my youngest baby started crying and the woman behind the counter gave me the bottle and said I could pay after so that I could go console the baby. Nice little patio outside too. No complaints for me, will definitely...
Read moreWe ordered two chicken salads, which costed us $36. However, we were disappointed to find that the portion size was too small for a takeout order. As we began eating, we noticed that the amount of chicken in both salads was also very less. This was frustrating, especially since we are regular customers who usually dine in and order chicken on the rocks. This was our first time trying a salad takeout, and it did not meet our expectations at all.
Response to Owner -Thanks for your response. To clarify, I never mentioned anything about the food being expensive in my original comment, and I want to be clear about that. I’m not here to argue, just to share my opinion based on my experience. I’ve had shawarma from many places in Peterborough, and recently tried the chicken salad from Osmow's for $15.49. I found the portion larger, with a good balance between the chicken and the salad. While I agree your dish was fully stuffed, I felt the chicken portion and the size of the container were smaller than expected. A small container filled to the top can still mean a smaller portion. My wife felt the same, but we really enjoyed the quality of the food and appreciate you maintaining that...
