I have been shopping at One Fine Food for 2-3 years on and off because I travel to Alberta often.
The men who run the butcher/ cheese area are absolutely wonderful!! 11/10.
I recently had a family member begin working here and was given a discount in the grocery store. Which was great but I was honestly very hesitant to even ask because I have been shopping for so much time there without it and didnât care.
I was given the discount without issue! Until one day two weeks ago I asked and I was completely ignored! Thinking the girl had not heard me I repeated myself. The girl did not make eye contact with me but gave me the discount. After telling me â well I can give it to you today but other cashiers might not be so niceâ she put all my groceries, meat, veggies and bread squished in one bag and practically throws it at me. I got out of there after telling her to have a nice day politely.
Fast forward, I go there again and itâs the same girl behind the cash, with another girl! I ask for the discount and she says â itâs for immediate family onlyâ I asked â even if we live in the same householdâ. The girl behind her raises her posture and gets a very confrontational tone at me which I assume was because she wasnât alone at the till this time. âIMMEDIATE FAMILY MEANS YOUR MOM YOUR DAD OR YOUR BOYFRIENDâ.
at this point Iâm in shock and Iâm extremely lost for words. So I interjected ânot sure how your boyfriend is immediate familyâ she looks at me with what looks like DEEP hate in her eyes and says â LIKE YOUR SPOUSEâ.
She leaves and I talk to the other girl about how I really didnât like that interaction and it was my second negative one with her, and I was feeling uncomfortable. The girl at the counter says she has no idea what Iâm talking about and that wasnât attitude.
I explained that I didnât want to be rude or cause any issues but I thought it was very important for her and any of her coworkers to know how you talk to and treat people is really important! I work with vulnerable people and a negative Interaction like this left me devastated for two days because I didnât understand what I had did or if maybe the girl at the counter was associated with someone who did not like me ?
Anyways, they fired my family member and told her they didnât appreciate her family member giving attitude to their staff and how I was coming in every day asking for a discount!
Oh my goodness the amounts of money I have spent here and having this happen XD.
I was going to chat with a manager and apologize for possibly offending her staff and explain my side of this horrible experience but quite honestly Iâm anxiety ridden after all the negative energy and I donât think anything positive would come from it, for if they already assumed their staff were in the right I donât want to be attacked moving forward.
I loved one fine foods so much! and would have recommended them to anyone. They have a great selection of everything you could ever need! and itâs always fresh but this was...
Read moreCame here because my in laws love this place. I think itâs because itâs a refreshing addition to an otherwise very corporate and unconscious retail landscape. The grocery store part they do very well with all the higher end food producers in Ontario represented. Itâs high end food, groceries and housewares. There is some points of disappointment to mention. The housewares, it was like a page off the abbot website - a wholesale distributor of goods. It was odd to me to see so much local food but almost no locally made goods. I work in marketing and could very much tell the store buyer just pulled from an abbot seasonal line. There was a couple locally made goods but nothing of note in the housewares section. Itâs interesting to jump into home goods and have such a high mark up. When those same products are sold in stores in the mall behind. We grabbed some items to take with us to the cottage. What wasnât super expected was the rudeness of the deli staff and the cashier. Neither of them were warm and made us feel like we were bothering them. The young man at the deli was pretty enthralled in his private conversation with the two other men, he graciously finished his tale of the night before for his fellow co-workers before bothering to acknowledge us. It would have been also appropriate and appreciated for him to wash his hands after handling sea food then our deli items but hey the fact we got served at all was the best we were going to get. My partner asked for what he wanted and took it. He decided to come back and grab a different item and mentioned the staff - the same one. Was kinda just rude to him. Which makes me sad because my partner is always nice to service people. Like overly nice and he usually can warm up any interaction. The cashier was one of the most sad sapped looking folks I have ever met. No hi or hello. No thank you. Iâd have preferred to cash myself out, they would have been a warmer experience. Would I come here again, sure but it wouldnât be my first choice. Itâs a very pricy store for such poor service and itâs not very imaginative. The prepared food was also a miss for us. We grabbed some items and found it to be okay but not the quality we would get in Toronto. Overall, Iâm sure this is a great alternative for people living in the area but in terms of high end and sustainable food stores which is kind of what they branded themselves as. They really donât make the grade. Again itâs pretty expensive for what it is and that would be fine. If it matched that price point in service and imagination of...
Read moreOne Fine Foods has a good cafÊ with decent espresso, cappuccino and lattÊ. My wife and I went there in December 2024, we ordered fried calamari appetizer, a Caesar salad, Salmon dish and steak. The calamari was dripping with oil, soggy. Salad was okay but the dressing did not seem to have anchovies. The steak was ordered to be medium, but was overcooked, charred, hard, and cooked beyond well done. The prices were way too high as we paid over $250 including 2 glasses of california wine.
We went there again last month, only due to pressure from some friends to celebrate a birthday. Again we ordered the fried calamari dish, a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and I ordered spaghettini with chicken parmegiana. The salad was fresh but the dressing was too runny, had no flavour, croutons were soggy. Calamari was dripping with oil as before. As for spaghettini, it was not cooked to al dente, but overcooked pasta, could not be twisted and twirled on the spoon as they broke into bits. The chicken parrmigiana was way soggy, no crispness in the batter and was like a piece of cloth wrapped around a thin chicken breast slice. Meat was flavorless. Prices were not worth the improper italian dishes they claim to excel in! As a consultant culinary chĂŠf of several MichĂŠlĂn star restaurants in Europe and having traveled extensively in Italy, I would not patronize this restaurant again.
The staff is extremely polite and entertaining, and the dimly lit ambience is romantic and comfortable.
But the main reason for restaurant experience is the food. Higher prices should be proportional to the quality of menu items and how well they are prepared and cooked, presented and how they smell the aromas, the taste, it's complexity of textures and it's overall experience on the palate.
You never seeve an overcooked and charred steak to a paying guest who ordered a medium cooked one. You never ever serve overcooked pasta and chicken parmigiana has a crispy texture, only patches of sogginess where it touched tomato sauce and Alfredo sauce. That second time we paid $120 something for food and 2 glasses of a horrible white wine, plus 18%...
