Terrible service. We were told the wait was 10 mins ok fine we go sit at the bar and get a drink. 20 mins pass we get up to leave and the hostess comes over saying how sorry she was and she "accidental" scratched our names out and gave someone else our table. As soon as I said we would go somewhere else they all of a sudden had one that just magically became available. So we finally get seated thinking our server would be fine... wrong. She comes over to take our drink order and my daughter said that we were actually ready to order food but needed a drink menu. So as were trying to order she says oh I'll bring. She comes back 5-10 mins later and finally takes our order that was only 4 appetizers. First appetizer comes out pretty quick and was brought by the cook then the escargot comes and theres no fork to eat it with. (I should mention it was not busy in there when we finally got seated) so she comes back and finally after the first appetizer was done and gives us our plates and my daughter asks her for a fork that she had with her and says to me "oh we actually have small forks for the escargot do you want one?" By this point I'm long past fed up. So another 30 minutes passes after were done the first 2 appetizers and again kitchen staff brings out the nachos and wings. We finish that and finally get our $93 bill that I paid with my credit card. I had never seen a waitress move so fast in my life to see if she got a tip. We were there an hour and a half all for 2 drinks and some food. I should also mention that the people who were seated before us were up and gone by the time we were finishing our first appetizer and looking as if they were friends with the staff, and let's not forget to mention that our server and the hostess spent about five minutes looking at something on the servers phone. This is not the first time I have had problems with the wait staff there. Don't know of I will go back for more than a...
Read moreFirst time in there was on Sunday Nov 19,2007. Had a good friend with me who were looking for hot wings. Heard this place had good wings. That's where all goodness was lost. Ordered 2lbs each. Not beer cause I was driving. My buddy had a beer. Nice and cold. The wings arrived while we were enjoying the pre frozen Calamari. Then the Wings...my God. It was so bad it was stupid. They were cold. Not warm but COLD. After sitting on the plate from less then 5min. Ice cold. I brought it to the attention of our server, very respectful. Her response...."well they have been sitting there". "Let me check and see if they will do anything but don't expect it. Probably stick them in the microwave for you....I'll be right back". Not once did I get the chance to respond. Lmao. She returned and said " we can't do anything other then microwave them... okay?". Then she turned and walked away. Not one to make a scene over a $25.00 restaurant bill but this rubbed me the wrong way. I asked for the manager. That explains why this place was such a dump. His reply " nothing we can do but microwave them" He then turned to walk away. I then introduced myself and asked him his name? "John or Jim". A rather tall fellow who came to our table with a attitude. At this point I was amused and offended at the same.time. it was at this point I simply told him. "No you will not be serving me microwaved wings. Take them off the bill...thank you". At no time was any effort put forward to make anything correct. Word of advise to the kitchen staff at this place. STOP PRECOOKING YOUR WINGS AND SETTINV THEM ASIDE TILL AN ORDER COMES IN AND THEN SAUCE THEM. NO EXCUSE FOR THIS TOTAL LACK OF QUALITY. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place a total waste of money and time. By the way the place had three other tables in use. ...
Read moreRiley's is my favourite restaurant in Peterborough! The sweet potato fries and chipotle dip is better than anywhere else! And the pulled pork sandwich on a pretzel bun is to die for! It's a bit pricey for a pub but the quality makes it worth it. It's always super busy though, a bit dark and very noisy which is a turn-off for me. And sometimes getting a table is a bit of a wait. The washrooms also aren't very clean and there are a lot of stairs so they aren't wheelchair accessible.
In the summer, I love sitting on their rooftop patio! The wait time for a table is brutal though and there's no organized line or way to tell who's up next for a table so people who arrive after you end up getting a table first which isn't fair. And there are a million stairs to get up to the patio so it restricts people with mobility issues from eating up there. We've also had our meals messed up on the patio and the wait time for food is much longer than inside. The servers also aren't as friendly as they're always run off their feet. But it's still my favourite patio in the city. I just wish it opened earlier in the spring and stayed open later in the fall.
In terms of take-out, the food is pretty pricey and it's usually always wrong. However, whenever I've called and reported issues with my meal they've always offered me a credit which is great customer service. Parking is also difficult to find which makes it especially hard when picking up food. And they don't offer delivery which is disappointing.
There are definitely ways Riley's could improve but it's still my favourite restaurant in...
