The Greek Freak - Peterborough — Restaurant in Peterborough

Tried a new Greek take out place in Peterborough Saturday for dinner. A review in a western style. Placed a web order for pickup. The Good: Easy to find location. Lots of parking. Great staff - very welcoming friendly and helpful. Bright, well lit location - would not hesitate to pick up an order here late at night. Lots of food; great value. Wide variety of food to choose from. Easy to read menu with large fonts and photo. Food taste Balance of flavour and texture. Chicken well seasoned and not dried out. Great durable food packaging that I can reuse at home, for leftovers and a 2nd life. Take out order was packaged neatly and items well organized in paper friendly bag. The Bad: I could not eaisly navigate the online menu without going through the process of placing an order. What is Freak Sauce? It is on their Freak Fries, however I cannot find what this is on their web site. Fries a tad too salty for my liking. Perhaps fries salted and and then combined with the Feta cheese takes it over the edge. Understanding salt adds to the flavour profile, if you are going to specialize fries to a flavour profile, emit the initial salt and go with the new flavour profile only. A little pricey for take out, however you can argue this is fresh and made to order. There is plenty of food for the dinner portion - maybe a bit too much. Pickeled peppers in the Greek salad? Not available on the menu. Not even as an extra add on. The Ugly - I could not find online the Nutritional profile for the food. A must have in todays health conscious diners. I did not check for this when I picked up my food. By that time, I was committed to the experience. Summary: would I eat here again? ABSOLUTELY. A refreshing change to Greek food that stands out above fast food clown and king chains. A great take out that sets your day for a picnic...

I have ate at this spot about 10x, due to its close proximity. However it’s a genuine coin flip as to if they’re going to get your order correct. Often times I ask for ONE alteration, in terms of the removal of a certain vegetable, yet the majority of the time the vegetable still remains on it.

The staff is really nice, they’re quick, and the customer service itself is good. You can tell they try hard, I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. However the continued inability to make the items correctly is a headache, especially that it’s happened over 5x. I happen to be lucky as I don’t have an allergy to said vegetable, it’s just a preference, but if I did it could be a larger issue.

I would love to recommend this place, again, as the staff are friendly and appear to be trying hard. But I can’t in good faith say the food quality makes up for the mistakes. In reality the food isn’t that great itself, and the prices are a bit high for what you get. I’ve tried at least 4 different things in the menu as well, whatever you do stay away from the over priced “Greek Bowl”. Which was 95% Lettuce and Onion, and about 5% Chicken and weird crunchy croutons type things.

If this was a mom and pop shop, I’d be more forgiving, but it’s honestly just a medium sized franchise, w/ subpar food. Also the wasp issue last summer that lasted the duration of the entire summer was outrageous if you tried to sit outside. No over exaggeration you would get multiple wasps swarming you, all over your food and drinks, this only stopped when the cold weather moved in. The only Greek salad without olives? I am travelling for business and stopped by to grab a Greek chicken salad. I asked for the chicken salad with no onions and the gentleman at the cash talked me into a salad bowl, which could include rice or beans which I did not want. Wanted the Greek salad with chicken. He charged me for the bowl telling me it would be cheaper in the long run, which I don’t really think, it would’ve been but I’ll take it. When I got back to my hotel, I was pleased that the vegetables in the salad are super fresh and crisp and very tasty as was the chicken, but it was a little disappointed that there was no olives to be found on the Salad. Overall, the food is very tasty and very fresh and I would recommend this restaurant. Please just add the olives...
