I just want to say I’m reviewing the restaurant not the hotel. I’ve only done two Google reviews in my life. The first was for a cell phone provider, and the transaction went very badly wrong, but this company went out of his way in such a huge way to make it right I was so impressed that I wrote a Google review on them. Unfortunately the situation today was the very opposite. I have never seen such absolute horrible customer service from a server. I have eaten at this restaurant in the past about two weeks ago and did have a server named Adam I believe. There was a problem with the diet Pepsi, being flat, and I was able to get his attention and ask him about it. He said yes, that’s a problem at the restaurant, but rather than doing nothing he brought me another one, and it was just as bad as the first, but I really appreciated that he went out of his way to do something. The bill came to 40 some dollars and I basically gave him a $20 cash tip because I was impressed he was paying attention to the table and not that there was a lot he had to do but at least he was trying to ensure that the experience was good. Unfortunately today I had a server that was absolutely horrible. She made me wait. 10 minutes to get a menu, and there was absolutely no one in the restaurant, because they have restaurant tables across the road at the canal where they had a few tables, but I was in the other side of the street, and there was absolutely no customer there other than me. I finally got the menu and two minutes later, I tried to get her attention to order, and she walked across the road and I could not get her attention. I finally seen someone who I believe was the manager/owner and I asked him if I could get quicker service if I went to the bar. He came to the table and seen 2 menus and said oh she was waiting for your other party to show up and I said no I told her and I wanted to order that I knew what he wanted and she basically walked away I was kind of shocked he made an excuse instead of just apologizing for her poor service He did take the order and I don’t know if he gave it to her or process it himself but while I was trying to get her attention again he was talking to her about giving her time off or someone in the restaurant time off rather than making sure she was being attentive to a table that she was basically ignoring. There was a young fellow who brought the meal to the table, as well as the condiments. Of course, it was my luck that there was no ketchup in the condiment container. When I tried to put it on my fries it basically splattered all over the place. My friend was in the store next-door buying something and the woman who was waiting on him at that store came out and asked how the meal was and I said the service sucked. She was surprised and said normally it’s really good so she yelled at the server to come over and deal with the problem. I have to admit that time she went and got a new ketchup container and brought it back however, it was nearly empty as well my friend, then used it and complained and then said that his fries were not even warm and I said let’s just eat because I have an hour and a half drive home and I just want to be out of here. I ordered the truffle burger, and unfortunately it came with so much oil that my hands were absolutely soaked, and they only give you one napkin. Therefore, I had to get the bus boy to come back over and he was very good. I never seen the server again until we had finished the meal and she came over and I said to just get the bill. She went inside and we waited and waited and waited while she talked to people at the bar and then finally came out with the bill. My friend was so annoyed with her that he just got up and walked away from the table while I paid. This is the first time I was so annoyed that I never gave a tip. Unfortunately, I can’t finish the review because I am exceeding the word limit I have her name and the receipt The review is real!!!! And the service was truly the worst I have...

Well it's not just a fluke. 4 times and all experiences horrible service. We go over with a boat load from sugarloaf every weekend. First experience. Two speciality coffees a tea and a glass of wine. No spoons and no sugar. Ask the waitor. He disappeared into the restaurant and never came back. Went in and got it myself. Waited 35 min for the bill. Again went in and paid it. Next experience sitting at a table next to boss. Same waiter totally ignoring us. To busy with the owners table refilling his drinks. Finally called him over to take our order after my wife going to get our menu's. Took order and disappeared. Comes back several times to refill owners order before we even get our drinks. Approximately 40 minutes go buy. We stop him and ask how much longer before we get our meal? He says it will be right up. He disappeared again. 10 min later he comes back and says he forgot to put the order in and he's sorry. We bite the bullet and say yes we still want our food. Never asks about our drink order. We get our food 15 min later and again fight for the bill. The last straw. We go for drinks again. Inside is completely empty. Three tables outside all from Sugarloaf Marina. Order our drinks. The waitress says to me that no one has ever ordered that before. I proceed to tell her well it's on the menu. Our order was 2 cheese cake coffee. 1 reg coffees 1 tea and one glass of wine. Off she goes. Now the table behind me starts going off. Apparently they are being ignored as well. She brings our drinks with spoons and she's gone. Comes back after a period of time and we ask fo sugar. She never comes back. I go inside to get it myself. Now it's time to get the bill. 20 min pass. People behind us are still waiting for their bill. My son goes in and pays. She comes out and proceeds to tell us along with an other waiter that they are sorry but it's busy. Three waiters three tables. I am done with that place. A very wise restaurant owner once told me that he didn't start making money until he stopped drinking at his own bar. I suggest that you Greg pull your head out of your a^& and manage your restaurant. Your...

Our visit to Port Colborne included a 2 night stay at the Canalside Inn and restaurant. We booked directly from their website and received a 5% discount. The hotel is pet friendly.

We stayed in suite 2 which is above the restaurant. This hotel is not handicap accessible due to very steep staircase. There's free parking in the back of the restaurant. The suite is very spacious. There is a full kitchen with range, microwave and refrigerator. There are pots, pans, plates, mugs and cutlery if you plan to cook. The drip coffee maker was broken and unfortunately we found out the hard way when the coffee was not dripping into the coffee carafe. We also encountered an issue with the wall outlet in the kitchen. We could not reset the fuse. There are 2 tvs one 50 inch in the main room and a small 32 inch in the separate bedroom. There's a pull out sofabed for additional sleeping space. The decor in the room is more rustic and farmhouse feel. There's portable air conditioner that keeps the suite cool.

We tried the restaurant downstairs. The fish n chips were inconsistent. Some of my guests said the fish was not fried properly. I didn't notice any issue with mine. They use basa instead of haddock or halibut.

The calamari was ok. The crab rangoon was good. My nephew ordered the steak special of the day. He cleaned the plate so I guess it was good. The Mongolian beef bowl was better than expected for a pub restaurant.

Overall, our stay was comfortable and we liked the location right by the canal and beautiful views of cruise ships crossing the canal. If you are looking for a family size suite then definitely give this...

INN: I have visited Canalsides many times to eat...I didn't know that they had rooms available here as well! With several types of rooms to choose from, I recommend the room with a view of the main street and canal (if you're lucky, you can watch the boats). Please note: parking is around back and in an alley-accessible entrance and access to the rooms is up a high narrow staircase (these are old buildings) just in case accessibility is an issue for you. Room was beautiful!!! Classic and welcoming!! And the kitchenette included a hotplate and a toaster, a microwave and a toaster oven, a kettle and a coffee maker. A few pots/pans, utensils, glassware/mugs/plates/bowls...everything you needed! Loved the room :) FOOD: Our group (of 19) had an excellent experience at the Canalside Restaurant yesterday. We had reserved a table for 10, which ended up doubling. When I called, the...manager (i assume) was very nice, and accommodating. "No problem" he said. When we arrived (and took up a significant portion of their indoors tables) we had a time constraint, needed to be in and out in 90 min. "No problem", we were told - I'll have you ready in 75! You know what? Everyone was seated comfortably, had a drink, had their order taken and food delivered in under 45 min and we were on time for our event (with time to spare). The staff were MOVING! You haven't seen choreography like this outside of a ballet (and in a ballet, they aren't balancing plates of food and drink). Service with a smile, and great food. We could not be happier. Thank you from the "green shirts" at the CRHA Niagara Division.

My family loves the restaurant. Food was amazing and eating outside on the walk at night was great. My family thoight the restaurant service was good. I also rented 5 rooms here, 1 3 4 7 and 10 for my brother's wedding due to proximity to Port Colborne venue and charm. They are old apartments over businesses overlooking the canal. It was beautiful to watch the boats pass by. Everything you need within walking distance. Unfortunatly while nicely decorated and spacious the rooms were lacking in cleanliness. I had to wipe the wall in between sink and mirror in room 7 because it was visually gross. I gave everything a wipe and disnt complain. I alao rented room 10 down the street due due to ground level access as all other rooms have very steep stairs and my mother has bad knees. This room looks cute at first but was dirty and needs renovations. The floor was grittty. When I brought it to attention of the owner he was dissmissive and advised me he personally had swept the room. I asked for a new room which he declined so i requested the room be cleaned again. My mother was already turned off and left a day early leaving the room vacant for the last night which was understandable but unfortunate. I inspected the room closely after the second cleaning and it was still not acceptable. Mainly the shower that I would not wash my dog in. Photo attatched. Also notable the months worth of cobs webs on the patio of room 10 rendered it unusable. Despite the convenience, view and charm and potential this place has I would not stay here again.
