I have been to Walters & Neptunes a couple of times now. My initial experience was a chance encounter. We had intended to go to another restaurant, but the wait for a table was too long for me. I tend to have a severe impatience for waiting in lines of any type, so when I'm told standing around for 30 minutes for a table is the expected wait time, I tend to just leave. Which worked out in our favour.
We ended up at Walters & Neptunes, where we were whisked off to a table upon immediately entering. The first initial impression of the restaurant was favourable, the one side has a brick and wood style charm to it, that reminds me of an old vineyard. The other side has the appearance of an old diner that needs some repair. I'm not sure if this is a planned esthetic, but it is a bit jarring at first.
The menu can be a little overwhelming, it's pretty massive with an eclectic mix of different foods. But it does allow for something for everyone.
The meals we have tried so far were all pretty solid and the service has always been pretty good. The turkey and beef dinners on the weekend are really good, with an overabundance of meat, potatoes, and vegetables. In fact they serve almost too much. I've also had their Fish and Chips which gave me 2 massive pieces of fish and thick cut fries. I would go as far as saying that they probably have the best fish and chips in Port Colborne and surrounding area, and I've tried them all.
We also tried their Greek food, which I'm assuming is one of their staple foods. I was really impressed with it. It wasn't over oily or greasy, which can sometimes happen with Greek food, and the servings were once again massive. But the food tasted fresh and delicious.
This restaurant is one of the little hidden gems in Port Colborne, and should be much popular than it appears it actually is. If you're in the town for whatever reason, and are feeling peckish, I would...
Read moreWe decided to try Walters and Neptune after reading reviews it was child friendly. We ordered our meals. The orange juice the children ordered had pulp in it, which they are not used to. I asked the waitress if they had chocolate milk and if I could order 2 choloclate milks. She didn't even come all the way over to our table and responded 'Well, I have 3 other tables waiting!' The chocolate milk didn't arrive before the children were done eating their dinner. They were waiting paitently for a dessert (jello or ice cream) which comes with a kids meal. I catch the waitress after serving another table (not planning on checking on us) if we could cancel the chocolate milk at this point and she said they are being made and walked away before I had a chance to ask about the kids desserts. At this point they are getting restless. My 1 year old screamed thinking the echo was funny..I was getting anxious to get moving, but there was no sign of the waitress. Then a lady with from the kitchen came and tried to give my 1 year old daughter crackers behind my back through the railings of the seating area!!! Are you kidding me! How about you actually check on your customers. Then the waitress came back with the bill to get us to leave with no mention of the dessert the kids had been waiting for. Our table was still full of dishes. I was extremely dissapionted in the service and felt like we were a big inconvenience to our waitress. We will definitelty not be returning and would advise anyone with young children to steer clear. This restaurant does not accommodate families with...
Read moreGonna just say if you are going to make it your special ocassion entrée you better make certain you have mastered its preparation. We ordered the lamb shank showcased for Mothers Day. When it arrive to the table it appeared as a dogs squeeky toy. Definitely hard and rubbery. I thought I found it tough because I was only served a butter knife with my utensils. It would not cut it. I then told our server that it was not tender and requested a steak knife. When I was given a steak knife it was not any different. I cut a piece off gave a few chews and had to spit in my napkin. I tried, I really tried. After three bites all in my napkin I gave up. I took it all back and said it was inedible. Honestly I wouldn't have given it to the neighbours dog. It was terrible. All that being said they asked what I wanted instead. I figured I couldn't go wrong with a Greek salad. It was good and fresh. They made it right. My meal was taken off our bill. Those that had the Souvlaki at our table really enjoyed their meal. The Greek wine was nice. All and all it was a good night I was just disappointed in the dish they chose to be the special of the night. I was really looking forward to a fall off the bone braised lamb shank. They need to go back to the kitchen and...
