Last man eating…

In the area picking up something from a customer and options for a bite was dwindling down. Finally decided for a revisit to this place which I haven’t been to for years.

Inside is one of those smaller cozy place; clean, typical and nothing too fancy. I was glad the server seated me on a bigger table instead one of those midget size ones. The server informed me they have a Tri-city special set menu for $35, quick glanced and I opted out on that. Here were the food I ordered;

Miso soup (complimentary). Pretty basic but thank you, nice to have a hot soup to warm up to from the cold. Appetizer tempura. Pretty basic and as it should be. Oyster motoyaki. I was glad they were on the shell but didn’t know it’s their own version of it; cold, marinated with cold pan fried onions on top. The cold oysters didn’t really do it for me. Is it really that hard to find just the basic fresh oyster motoyaki baked with Japanese mayo anywhere? lol Foie gras nigiri. Okay this is one of those must order item from here. Loved how the way it is put together and seared. Rich, buttery and creamy that literally melts in your mouth. Very nice! Spider roll. A little bit too basic, could be more generous on the soft shell crab. Saba shio yaki. It was okay, pretty straightforward dish. Assorted sashimi. It was okay, the Akami could be a better cut. Chopped scallops, uni, amaebi nigiris. The chopped scallop was fresh, the uni was a generous amount, I like how the amaebi head was prepared so easier to eat. Albacore toro, Akami, chu toro. The albacore toro was a bit dry, the Akami was fresh, the chu toro just make it to the satisfactory level (as you can tell it lost some of its beautiful colour already).

The restaurant is conveniently located on the corner of Lougheed Hwy and Shaughnessy Street in Port Coquitlam. There are plenty of free parkings in the plaza. Inside the restaurant offers a causal comfortable dining atmosphere.

The food was okay, could be better in some departments, but overall satisfactory level.

As for the service, the staffs here were very friendly and welcoming. And quite accommodating to me being the last person left munching away (sorry over stayed 10mins...

Ate here again yesterday, after a delightful experience on the weekend. We had different servers this time but both times they were absolutely amazing and friendly. Got served miso soup at the beginning, believe our Rice Bowl came with it but also got a complimentary one as well. We tried the Sushi Taco that was well craved about and honestly it was something worth trying, I did have a few small pieces of crab shells but it was easily removed. Got the Chirashi Rice Bowl and the sashimi was fresh and tasted great! The design is also unique and different than other places.(Only for $15!) Next was the Red Dragon Roll, had a nice sweetness to it with the Gochujang mixed in, and the over-all of the roll tasted good as well. Finally last of our order was the Scallop Risotto, didn’t know what to expect at first but after taking a bite we both fell in love with this dish. The Risotto had a delicious teriyaki /buttery taste and when served with these Jumbo Scallops it was an amazing combination. Our server also seemed to love this dish as well. After trying the Scallop Risotto, we were curious how the Nigri would taste and ordered a Hotate Nigri and was very impressed. Was very fresh and a mouth full of flavour. (Not recommended for the non raw fish/shell fish eaters) As we’re getting our bill, the server told us that since Kosho Sushi is newly Open they tend to give each Customer a goody bag to take home and also mentioned that they were busy on the weekend and must of forgotten to give us one on our first visit.(We were very pleased and love how honest they were)

This new sushi joint is a must try if you live near the area, it’s convenient as it is just off of Lougheed and Shaughnessy, lots of parking. Friendly and wonderful staff, Food is unique and delicious. Ingredients is very fresh and well presented. Heard the Sushi chef has quite the resume from the other reviews here and it clearly shows in the dishes. Prices are very reasonable, and the quality of the food is outstanding, don’t feel like you got ripped or ate a bunch of junk after leaving.

Dined at many restaurants and honestly only a handful can leave a impression like Kosho Sushi did that will make you want to write a...

i came here without expectations and i was right to do so, as it was just mid. although i must say, their sashimi and nigiri are in thick slices, its not the most fresh or anything- it just tastes normal. their rice was also lightly seasoned w rice vinegar 3.5/5

their ootoro nigiri was ok- the initial bit was so fatty and delish but it had that fishy aftertaste so i wouldnt recommend it much... 2.5/5

their scallop motoyaki was eh, nothing special or memorable 2.8/5

their abalone was the most mid thing ever- the sauce just tasted like teryaki sauce and their salad had no dressing so it was like rabbit food 1/5

their shrimp tempura was standard, the outside was crispy but nothing was special 3/5

so was their chopped scallop nigiri, it was standard so after 1 pc u dont want another 2.8/5

and lastly, their salmon katsu was cooked to perfection- not raw or overcooked and powdery, and the outside was a perfect crisp contrasting the smoothness of the fish. however the sauce accompanying it wasnt rly good- as that hp tasting sauce pairs better w red meat. 3.5/5

their fried ice cream was just tempura batter with an ice cream sando inside of it...
