I came here for dinner the other night and was unfortunately disappointed.
The $8.50 chips and salsa were the cheapest, store brand chips I’ve had in a long time. They were hard, too thick, and overcooked. Acceptable when you get a bag at Save-On for $4 but not when I’m paying for what amounted to a handful of chips at a restaurant. The salsa also arrived in a ramekin that was too small to actually dip the chip into, and the tomatoes were underripe. It was mostly a watery bunch of diced veggies. Very little flavor present.
The main dish I had was mole enchiladas. The mole tasted overcooked to the point where it had that kind of acidic burned flavor. The inside of the enchiladas was also somehow dry. The plate came also dressed with a minuscule amount of rice and refried beans — like maybe a quarter cup of each if not less.
I also got horchata, which was seemingly good but the cup it came in was mostly ice and left maybe 100-150ml of actual volume for the drink. For $4 I’d like to have been served more drink. The water I got also came in a paper cup, the tiny kind you get in a hospital or dentist waiting room. No pitcher for additional water if all 75ml of that didn’t quench me.
My friends I came with also left feeling unsatisfied with their experience, and somewhat hungry due to the portion size but unwilling to spend more for the quality of the food.
Overall between the tip, enchiladas, drink, and chips that my friends and I split, my total was $25.10. That is NOT a cheap dinner and I do not feel like I got my money’s worth here. The staff seem friendly enough, but the food is just not to the quality that the price demands. I understand it’s hard for restaurants, and this feels like a small locally run business. I like that atmosphere. But man, the quality of the food here does NOT warrant the price, especially when competition (Original’s Mexicano) isn’t too far away. Yes you do end up paying a couple dollars more, but the quality and flavour of the food is...
Read moreFood was great, portions were great and the prices were more than reasonable . The milky soaked cake is my favorite. We had nachos, chicken enchiladas with green tomatillo sauce, and the carne asada with beans and salad. I dont understand the negative reviews personally. I am an incredibly picky diner and I modify everything. I didnt feel the need to modify my order here in the slightest.
Service I guess can be slightly confusing at first but once we realized we just needed to order at the counter and ask for anything we need they were quick to provide and super friendly and gracious.
We spilt it all between us and I had 2 full take out boxes of food to take home. The nachos were good not traditional in the sense of pub nachos but in my opinion they were authentic which made it better. Fresh pico de gallo and avocado drizzle made them super tasty. I was full after that (8.50) and then started on our mains. Fresh flour tortilla for the enchilada and a side of fresh corn tortilla for the carne asada. Carne asada was nice and thin and tender. Salad was fresh and dressing was homemade. The enchiladas were huge and also served with rice and beans. Typical authentic Mexican rice pilaf and refried beans. Both entrees were 12.00 which was more than reasonable . Enchilada served with choice of sauce we chose green tomatillo which was nicely spiced.
People have complained online about portions and the price and food being bland. We didnt experience any of that. We had the opposite. 2 drinks 2 entrees a desert and an appy was just around 45$. Not bad at all. And I'm guessing people who complain about the blandness are expecting taco bell flavors. Authentic Mexican by nature is slightly bland. How much flavour can fresh tortilla and cheese and beans have ? It tasted just like the Mexican I eat in mexico! We will...
Read morevery disappointed in my visit today, with the bad service, I ordered my food and the person who took my order did not take it well, he brings me the tostada and tells me that it was a mistake from the kitchen And he asked me if I wanted it, I said yes, and my quesadilla never arrived, I asked for a coca cola, and the boy asked me if a Mexican coca cola or regular coca, we asked him for regular coca cola, did we finish our meal and the quesadilla still did not arrive, I went to ask and he told me that he had been confused and that if he had charged me for the tostada and not for the quesadilla, and well at that moment I told him that it was okay that I no longer wanted the quesadilla, at the time of paying for the coca cola, the guy charged me almost $ 5 dollars for a coke, I commented that if the coke we ordered was regular, not Mexican coke, which in his menu is more expensive, in the end I argue that was not the price, and I made the observation that in his menu they must put can coke $ 1.75 and bottle mexican coke which is more expensive, because in his menu only has Mexican coke and pop, and people can easy get confused, and I left paying $ 5 dollars for a regular coke, we have always gone to eat there the food is good but this time the service was terrible from the moment he didn't take the correct order, which brought us something that we did not order and charged us the coke as if we had ordered a Mexican coke. Last time we are going to eat there very bad communication and service and that I am Mexican and cannot say that there was a...
