If you have a serious allergy, DON’T GO to this restaurant! The Bombay Sweets Indian restaurant, small one located in a strip mall in Port Coquitlam, has got to be the worst handled Indian restaurant in the lower mainland that I’ve dealt with. We ordered dinner from here recently and added a note under one of the dishes stating we had a serious nut allergy (Anaphylaxis) and stated NO NUTS for entire food order! This note that was posted when ordering should have been sufficient and if they couldn’t comply with this they should have reached out to customer to advise them!! I tried contacting the restaurant several times to confirm that it was safe for me to eat, without nuts and couldn’t get through to the restaurant, I even emailed them! I had a tip of a fork taste of one of the dishes and thought it had a nutty taste so I didn’t feel safe to continue my dinner and shortly afterwards I felt like I was having a reaction. I didn’t eat any of my dinner.
The next day, I finally reached the restaurant. I spoke to a young man by the name of Karan, he stated that his manager was not there as he was visiting his brother who is in the hospital and very sick. He looked up our order number and said that one of our dishes did contain nuts and there is no way it can be made without nuts. I advised that I want my money back and the situation was very dangerous to someone who has a nut allergy. He noted that the message about the no nuts was seen by the cook, but thought it was for the lamb dish, regardless of our message stating the nut allergy was for the full order. I told Karan that we want a full refund since safety measures were not addressed and we were not able to enjoy nor was I able to eat our meal. Karan stated that I should keep all the food and bring it to the restaurant on Tuesday morning and the manager will give us a full refund. Tuesday morning I contacted the restaurant before heading over to ensure the manager was in the restaurant. I spoke to another employee who stated that the manager wouldn't be arriving until after 2pm sometime and told me to come in around that time. I told him the situation and said I don't want to come in until I know the manager is actually on site and gave him my contact information to have his manager call me once he arrives. The manager did call me back later in the afternoon and initially told me he can’t give a full refund just the a refund for the dish with the nuts and told him that was ridiculous since I could even eat anything and after his employee told us to keep all the food and not to eat anymore so we could return it. He then promised to refund ALL our money and would leave a note for the employee to comply. When we got there the employee gave us half of our refund and said that was it! Not only did that employee charged my husband $70 on the machine by “accident” and then gave him $35 back in cash, he straight out refused to reimburse him the full amount! They owe us money!!!! There was about 80% of the food leftover!
I believe The Bombay Sweets hasn't taken the nature of this complaint seriously! I believe this restaurant poses a serious health concern to people with severe allergies putting them at risk. Something needs to be done...
Read moreWe placed an order for a family of 5 at 5pm. There was no way to change not the online order system the time for collection, so I added it to the comments section and asked if the order could be ready for 6:30pm. We arrived at Bombay Sweets at 6:30pm. There were about 7-8 people outside, half skipthedishes people and others. We asked if anyone was waiting to place an order as there was no organization between people waiting to place and order and people waiting for their order to be ready. So, not to be rude, we waited. After 15 minutes we managed to get inside (so 6:45pm) and said we were here to collect an order ready for 6:30p. She said it would be ready shortly and we paid and went outside to wait. 45 minutes later after waiting outside and our name called.
During that time, many people were frustrated, another skip the dishes driver complained he had been waiting for 50 minutes after the order said it would be ready, he was told by the staff at the front "I don't want to hear it, don't complain to me, if you want to complain, complain to the kitchen staff" and she walked away.
Our first experience of Bombay Sweets was disappointing. Whilst the samosas were really good and we'll definitely just order them again, and the sauce tasted great - I found the curries to be the usual North American version, i.e. just "meat in spiced gravy", no onions, no tomatoes, no substance. Having lived in Northern England and experienced authentic curries there, I was severely disappointed despite the reviews. Curries for me aren't just meat in some spiced gravy... it should be almost like a stew.
Oh well, my search for a "proper curry"...
Read moreGreat Indian food! We moved to the area six months ago and we were excited to find a take out place with good quality and freshness. We have tried other Indian restaurants in the tricities and this one has been the best in our honest opinion. I don't normally take the time out to write a review but I felt they deserve to be recognized. The young woman who works at the front desk is delightful to interact with. She is polite and considerate - today she offered to package our sweets in separate containers so that they would not get soggy. During Diwali they are super busy and you can see just how hard all the staff are working to quickly serve the long line ups. yet they are always courteous and professional. The sweets we ordered (Gulab Jamun and Besan Ladoo) were clearly made fresh and prepared in-house. You could taste the perfect amount of cardamom in the Gulab Jamun - their pastry chef is very talented and I appreciate knowing that the sweets that I am giving to my kids is fresh. For dinner we ordered naan, chili chicken, malai kofta and vegetable biryani. All delicious. I have found ordering online and then picking up my order has been the best option to save time. Another added perk is that It's right next to Fruiticana, so I can do my Indian grocery shopping and then pick up my order on my way home. Thank you for cooking quality food for our family, we...
