Today was my 6th anniversary and because of Covid most of my plans went to pot. However I was going to be in Port Hope today so I emailed the bar and asked about making a reservation. When we arrived we had to sign in and as soon as we were done the hostess greeted us and right away the professionalism was apparent.
Our server was Laurel and this amazing lady was so sweet and hard working. During the order process I messed up and did not explain my dietary needs and she quickly fixed the problem at no cost to me.
Most servers seem to wait until you have a mouthful before checking with you, but not Laurel. Her timing was bang on and only approached when I was taking a drink.
My wife ordered the steak and I ordered the chicken Parm. The first bite and I was hooked. It was delicious. The steak was well done but that is how my wife wanted it. The drinks kept coming and the tiny table was always cleared on time.
The soft music playing was an eclectic blend of smooth jazz and classic soft rock. The people on the terrace were spaced out well so that we did social distance but still could not hear each other. The atmosphere was relaxing and it only took an hour for the dinner to be served.
This is the best restaurant experience I have had in all of Port Hope. The staff are amazing and for sure we will be going back.

We were seated outside and one staff member was kind enough to turn on an outdoor heater. Five minutes later, the manager ran over and scolded us for having it on and said, “we only turn this on when the temperature drops below 15”. We tried to explain that another staff member had turned it on but she stormed off before we could respond. She was in quite a huff ( I wonder- if it’s about saving money, why not just turn off the air conditioner? It was definitely below 15 inside) It was 17 degrees outside but it was windy and we were pretty uncomfortable for the rest of our time there. There was no apology, no explanation for her behaviour. Left a sour taste!
Beyond that, the dinner service was really slow and the staff seemed anxious and stressed out. The food was decent! But if you’re looking for a relaxing atmosphere I’d...
Read moreI was visiting Port Hope and asked another business owner where I should go for some lunch. He (Brian) recommended this place.
I was greeted by Deb and I chose to sit at the bar. The bartender was Carson. I met the owner, Jessie if I’m remembering her name correctly. Everyone was so kind, warm, friendly and attentive.
I had planned to stay for one drink and lunch but had such a great time, thanks to Deb, Jessie and Carson, that I stayed for a few hours.
The burger, side salad(great serving size) and wings were very tasty and the wings were not the tiny ones you get at some places where there is only skin and bones. The wings here at Beamish House were meaty and delicious.
I was very impressed that they honour their regular customers who have passed away with a nice plaque mounted on the bar and walls
I...
