We were customers for many years prior to covid. Ordered from new take out location during COVID and pizza was ok but not great, contrary to our previous excellent experiences. My wife had been a customer since the 80’s. Decided to go back today as their new dining room was open again which was always our go to spot for pizza and beer. I called ahead to make a reservation and the lady said they don’t really do that especially from 6 to 7, their busiest time. I said I can be there in 15 minutes, it was 5:05 pm. She said ok I can save you a spot but before I could give my name she had said thanks, and hung up. My wife and I walked in the door at 5:19 and had to wait a bit at the door to be seated. We saw several people in the east (right side area) and a reserved table. Along the left wall was a bunch of tables with reserved signs on them. What was very discouraging was a wall and a half of pin ball machines that were really loud. The renovations did not add any seating, it simply moved the kitchen to make way for very loud game machines. Was disappointing to say the least. When the young lady finally appeared, I told her I was told a table would be held, 15 mins ago when I called and she said all I have is outside seating on the sidewalk. We reluctantly took it. What a mistake, plants on railing overhanging our food, loud street ( not their fault) but the service sucked, after taking our order and delivering the pizza she never came back to see how we were doing, whether we wanted anything else or more drinks.( maybe they were short staffed?) the pizza had basically no sauce on it, was so dry, and they used to offer shakers with Parmesan, basil etc. not this time and we didn’t get a chance to ask because we never saw her again till time to pay. We also noticed that when we paid by debit machine at 6:22 pm and was leaving, we noticed that the wall of tables reserved were still empty. Just all around disappointing especially when we were fairly regular customers for many years but as my wife said “will be our last”. Too bad. Was always my recommendation to friends and family,...
Read moreOur family wanted to love this restaurant so much. We heard great things. I’m trying to be generous in rating. Desperately trying for help in rating. We went two days in a row trying to give the benefit of the doubt. (were from out of town) we heard great things about it and marked it for our annual trip. First night one server. She did so well on her own with a packed house Aught 30, 2023. Friendly. Missed the basics such as offering Parmesan cheese (why is it not readily available) but did good. The second night a total disaster equally as busy with two servers this time. Food was cold upon arrival, Asked for Parmesan cheese… never arrived, servers forgot about us and second ordered placed for more Jim balls didn’t arrive before we were done eating. . Service was horrible, (utterly horrible) and I worked in the service industry many years ago. We try to give each other breaks. But this was incompetent. if I’m being kind. Asked for the bill waited 20 min… no one was coming. then went in to pay. Server said “oh yeah, your bill” food was cold, hair in mine, so obviously disgusting. Not going to eat. Left it and stopped eating. Children took theirs home though. From the looks of other reviews the owner is interested in making excuses for errors rather than fixing. That will impact business. Wanted to love this place so much. Sad I can’t give it the rating I have other Port Hope Businesses. This...
Read moreWe had to park down the road due to major roadwork in downtown Port Hope. Totally worth the walk to find Jim's Pizza, who were most accommodating for our group of 4 adults with 1 child.
We started off with the sharing size Ceasars Salad, which was crisp romaine covered with croutons and a velvety, creamy dressing.
We had Jim's special pizza (extra-large) with lots of fresh toppings, including bacon, pepperoni, and veggies. We asked for extra cheese, and well done. Also ordered the small cheese pizza for the smallest member of our delegation.
Certainly the best pizza around with a good amount of fresh, stretchy mozzarella and a golden brown finish.
The server was welcoming and very helpful moving tables together to make a comfortable space for us to enjoy our dinner. She also guided us through the menu with helpful recommendations. (Still had leftovers)
If you live in Port Hope, surely you know this place. If not, it's totally worth the drive. Great pizza/salad place, cool atmosphere, and dining surrounded by old school pinball...
