I usually don't write reviews, but I can't hold back after tonight's disappointing dinner with my friend. If I had known the dinner would end like this, I wouldn't have chosen this restaurant. Maybe picking the Port Moody location was my mistake.
I generally love Sushi Mura for its friendly and attentive service. However, this time, I was shocked. Around 7 PM on July 21, 2025, one of the three servers—a Korean woman with long eyelash extensions and heavy makeup—had an overpowering perfume scent. At first, I thought I might be overreacting, but its intensity was so overwhelming that my friend ran to the restroom to vomit. The smell made her feel extremely unwell, ruining our meal.
We politely raised this issue with another Korean server who seemed new. After seeing them talking, the problematic server still merely checked if our food was okay and never apologized by the time we paid. She denied hearing our complaint, even though I clearly saw them discussing near our table. This could easily be verified by the restaurant's CCTV—a fact I mentioned, seeing their whispers as they walked towards the restroom. Her dismissive "I didn't hear anything" response felt juvenile.
Restaurant staff should be aware of all potential allergies, not just food-related ones. Perfume and cosmetics can also trigger reactions. Not knowing something isn't shameful, but recognizing and learning from mistakes is crucial. Despite this, her failure to prioritize our well-being over her pride reveals a mismatch with the service industry.
Finally, when she said, "Shouldn't you go to the hospital? Are you okay? I didn’t hear your friend was sick," her words seemed harmless, but her mocking tone was unacceptable. She would do well to reflect on her expression in a mirror as if speaking to herself. Intentional or not, today’s service was the worst I've experienced.
Service industry workers must act professionally and consider their colleagues. Such behavior not only affects tips but also impacts coworkers’ earnings. I hope you grow both professionally and personally in whatever endeavors you pursue.

I had really high hopes for this branch because I’ve been to another location and loved it. Unfortunately, this one was a massive letdown.
I ordered the “Guilty Pleasure” sushi, and after just one bite, I couldn’t eat any more—it was that bad. The rice was burnt and had a terrible taste, and the smell was off. Out of our group of four, two of us tasted it, and both immediately said, “Don’t eat this.” It smelled and tasted so bad we asked the server to take it back.
To be fair, the tempura was okay and the miso soup was actually delicious, and I want to highlight that the service was excellent—very polite, fast, and professional.
However, the kitchen refused to take the sushi back, even though we didn’t touch most of it—just two small bites. They said returns weren’t allowed. The server then brought us a replacement sushi (which we didn’t ask for), but somehow, it was even worse than the first.
I left feeling sick and extremely disappointed. This was such a letdown, especially since I was excited to have this branch open near me. Based on this experience, I will never go back to this location, and I honestly cannot recommend it to anyone. Good service can’t make up for...
Read moreI tried this newly opened sushi restaurant at 1 PM, and it wasn't too crowded. The decor has a modern feel. I ordered sushi, sashimi, and udon. While the ingredients are fresh and above average, but the execution was lacking.
The udon was not chewy and tasted quite salty. The sashimi was fresh and enjoyable, but the sushi had too much rice, which was also a bit hard. Overall, it's not my preferred type of place, but the raw ingredients were good.
I gave 3 stars for the service not because it was bad, but because it was minimal. They take you to your seat, you order from a tablet, they bring your food and the receipt, and that's it. Another reason for the 3 stars is that the employees don't seem to know their menu. They brought me a dish I didn't order, and when I told them it was wrong, they kept insisting it was mine by pointing to different items on the receipt until I showed...
