My brother and I enjoy Indian cuisine and have tried many of the Indian restaurants in Prince George. We have our favorite but we had many recommendations about the Clay Oven. We tried it and were not disappointed. The service was professional polite and quick to accommodate. The menu was extensive and explanations to each menu item was provided. We ordered dishes we were already familiar with in order to compare to other Indian cuisine restaurants we have patronized. All of the dishes either met or exceeded our expectations. The food csme out hot and fresh and when asked to bring out menu items a few at a time this they also did. The food portions were standard restaurant size, presentation was good, and food was very tasty though I like very spicy and my brother likes mild so we had to compromise with eachother. The Honey glazed cauliflower was very similar to Gobi Manchurian we have had at other restaurants. This was a 10. It came out hot and crunchy with the glaze on top. If left you long it gets soggy but this was perfect. We even ordered an extra to go. We had the Nan Bread and raita both were excellent, we tried the tandoori chicken which was enjoyable. We had the Fish Pakora which we had with the green sauce (sorry, the one with cilantro and green chillies I forgot name)we both enjoyed a lot and its a family favorite so saved some for the kids as well. Tried the Chicken 65, Which I never had before but we both agreed it was very tender and loved the caramelized red onion. I would enjoy more spicy where my brother thought just right. Anyways another winner. With such a broad menu we will definitely be back here again. There is at least 2 dozen items that we want to try. Thanks Gurvinder for the recommendation good call. As far as prices go the bill was reasonable for this day and age as food prices have soared everywhere It's hard to keep food enjoyable without cutting corners or having to charge a king's ransom. So price was reasonable and remember if service is good remember to tip the waiter or waitress. One final note the Clay oven is located in Super 8 motel but many will remember it as the restaurant and buffet in the old Esthers Inn. Just behind the Burger King on the...
Read moreWorst food to eat . Pls find another place to go if you wanna eat . I don’t usually write reviews unless it’s something good but clay oven has left an extreme impression that I have to convey to every reader . I have gone for dine in and takeout and the only good thing about the place is the ambience outside . The food is the worst and I cannot imagine how even one good review can be posted or how the store still runs . I have tried to be open to trying different foods over the past few months as there are very few Indian restaurants in prince george . But even among the limited options I had to decide to never go to clay oven ever again every time I eat their food . All my companions who have experienced their food had had terrible food poisoning and I don’t know what they add in it to make everything equally disgusting. 80% of the items taste the same and 100% of the items are going to upset your stomach to end up terribly in the washroom . I had decided never to eat from there since I saw rats running in the dining area a few months ago . Staff said it came from the hotel and they had measure and everything but it was disgusting what so ever to step foot in there to eat again . Until today when it was the only restaurant open late so I ended up going there . The food this time was pathetic. The rice tasted like it was soaked rice in oil without even boiling . Everything was just trash . I don’t usually hate on food so much to write about it but this was just extreme level of disgust and disappointment. Honestly guys if you are looking for a review this is the honest one . Even considering a wide variety of people i think it could only get worse unless you have an out of the world body metabolism to cope with their food . To the owners - I am writing this for at least one person to see. I genuinely do not need a reply as I have seen how you respond to other people while they post their reviews . Also given the fact that I will never come back or bring anyone with me over there. And if you are reading this please be considerate about the people coming to your restaurant . It would be a good idea to try your own food once in a while so you know how inedible some of your...
Read moreSo, this was our second visit to Clayoven Restaurant. The first time when we went there, the food was good, except the momos ,they were below average, they tasted more like kachoris and also we were served green chutney with it, which came as a shock to us, when we told the server there about our expectations of momos, she smiled and said you won’t get the Indian taste here, which definitely sounded not so good, as she was not talking in the favour of the restaurant where she was working. We were asked about our dining experience at the check out counter, we honestly told them about our experience, upon which she said please come back again and we will make sure you have a better experience next time. Today again we went for my husband’s birthday dinner there, and I called and asked them if they can surprise my husband with a small celebration and a dessert, to which the manager said sure we’ll do that. I was really happy to hear that, and was looking forward to our dinner . We reached there and again informed them about the surprise celebration for my husband’s bday, and I was told yes we know, and we’ll do it. We ordered food, and was waiting for it, when I saw the lady walking up to our table with the dessert ,and she looked at us ( my husband , me and our daughters) and asked so, who’s birthday is it? Her approach was really cold and uncalled for, as I already informed them twice that it was my husband’s birthday. This was definitely not a surprise I was expecting. It was not at all impressive, it was more like they did a favour to us. When we go to other restaurants and ask them about the birthday surprise, their staff comes together singing the birthday song, and making the birthday person feel special. But here it was the opposite. So, our second experience with them was also not good. Their food is good but their...
