Read moreBig disappointment. The first impression was nice: it is a beautifully decorated place, everything looks brand new, and we were warmly greeted at the entrance and seated at a table near the window opening onto the terrace. The food was delicious. We ordered omelettes. Then the disappointments started. First, we noticed that the french fries that were supposed to be served with the omelettes, were not there. We did not complain. My husband ordered mushrooms added to his omelette (for the additional fee of $2.49). There were no mushrooms in the omelette when it arrived. The waitress, when informed of it, said there were two options: 1) to remove the mushrooms from the bill, or 2) she would bring them separately. My husband agreed to option 2. It must be noted that when a similar mistake happened at another breakfast restaurant a few years ago, the staff apologized and did not charge us for the missing product, and just brought it when we mentioned the omission. At the end, my husband paid the bill without checking it (because we are used to the waiters' honesty), but realized a moment later that the amount was strangely high. At this point, we looked at the receipt and saw that in addition to what happened before, the waitress added $4.95 for each order for "fruit/potatoes", while potatoes had not even been served, although they are supposed to be and are included into the price, according to the menu. All this means that my husband paid $9.90 extra + tax + 18% tip for nothing. The waitress, when confronted with the fact, admitted that it was her "mistake" and brought $10 cash. I said that there were also taxes and tips paid on top of everything. Then she reluctantly added a $2 coin. The entire experience was so disappointing that we did not ask for the adjustments (like recalculating the bill, removing the tip, talking to the manager) and left. Quebec City is our favorite getaway, and we go there at least twice a year. I always say that it is an amazing welcoming place. This time, our visit was spoiled by this incident and left a bad aftertaste. Should the restaurant management/owners or potential customers be interested, the events described above took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Au Petit Chalet, 1326, av. Maguire, Québec, table 25, at around 11 a.m. Bill #234043-1. Served by Jeanne G., according to the bill. We saved it for...
Read moreA brightly satisfying breakfast/brunch spot that’ll definitely fill you up! I slightly underestimated the portion size — turns out, it was a bit more than I expected, in the best way. The dish was a perfect sweet-and-savory combo. The berries were a nice touch, helping to refresh the palate if you find the food a bit on the greasy side. Honestly, a 10/10 combo. At one point I even caught myself wondering how brilliant the chef must be to come up with something like this. No joke
Service-wise, I did notice that the servers seemed to prioritize tables with more people. I was dining solo and had to ask a few times before getting served, while some groups who arrived after me were helped first. The attitude felt quite meh compared to what I saw them give others too. So if you’re visiting alone, just be prepared to have a little extra patience.
That said, the food was good enough that I’d still come back once or twice if I ever visit Quebec...
